Black Lives Matter Theme Week at Her Campus at Helsinki

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

This week, Her Campus at Helsinki would like to focus on supporting the Black Lives Matter movement by contributing through articles on the subject. We will both be sharing information about the movement and highlighting some cultural achievements of black creators.

From the BLM webpage:

“#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.”

Our aim is to contribute to the global anti-racist dialogue, amplify black voices and celebrate the art, cultural achievements and literature of black artists.
