The New Year brings in excitement for new challenges, goals, and things to look forward to. The first of the year symbolizes newness, and one of the most exciting things to look forward to is new music. Even though music is released throughout the year, there’s something incredibly satisfying in starting a new year and knowing your favorite artists are creating something new for you, and this is the year you get to have it. I’ve compiled a list of my five most anticipated albums for the year 2020, so keep your ears open and ready!

Tame Impala – ‘The Slow Rush’

Release date: February 14th. This album has been on the horizon for a while now and was delayed due to Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker not wanting to release music that wasn’t the best he could do. Concert tickets for his upcoming tour have already gone on sale and are selling out fast! Must mean we all have high expectations for the psychedelic pop album.

The 1975 – ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’

Release date: February 21st. Fans have also been waiting for this album as it was supposed to be released soon after their previous one. Waiting 15 months should be worth it, though, as we already know their electropop and funk style to deliver.

Mac Miller – ‘Circles’

Release Date: January 17th. ‘Circles’ is the sixth album by rapper Mac Miller. He was working on it before his death in 2018 and will be released posthumously. Mac Miller’s death came as a tragedy to fans of his and to the music world. It’s exciting to be able to have another album celebrating his greatness.

Lana Del Rey – ‘White Hot Forever’

Release date: TBD. Even though Lana Del Rey released ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell!’ in August 2019, she confirmed she was working on ‘White Hot Forever’ which should be released 12 to 13 months after NFR. This means we should be keeping a lookout around summertime for another Grammy worthy psych-rock album. Additionally, her spoken words poetry ‘Violet’ should also come out this year! If you’re like me, this is lucky because you can’t get enough of Lana Del Rey’s ethereal goddess-ness.

The xx – TBD

Release date: TBD. The London trio hinted at having a new album being released this year on their Instagram. It’s much anticipated after their album ‘I See You’ in 2017 which gave an eerie Indie party feel. Hopefully, they’ll announce their album and concert dates soon as four years have been a long time to keep fans waiting!

More music will be released in 2020 than I can keep up with. Other bands like The Strokes, The Cure, Morrissey, and The Killers will be releasing music TBD, but these are my top five most anticipated albums of 2020. Be on the lookout for concert tickets, too, before an album release!
