5 Ways of Getting into the Christmas Spirit in Helsinki

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

When you still have exams and deadlines coming up, it can easily feel like the holidays will never come and you’ll never really get to enjoy the magical time that is Christmas. However, there are lots of small things you can do to get into the spirit of the holidays!

1. Go to a Christmas concert.

From Akateeminen Joulukonsertti, organised by the different student nations of the University, to Kauneimmat Joululaulut, happening in a number of churches around the city, Christmas concerts are a traditional part of the holidays and a fun thing to do with friends, family or your SO.

2. Get together with friends.

It’s the most stressful time of the year, but taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down with friends and have a warm cup of glögi is an easy and effective way to destress and get into a festive mood. Plus, your friends could probably use a break, too.

3. Go to a Christmas market.

Tuomaan markkinat is taking place right in front of the University Main Building so it’s hard to miss, but any Christmas market is great for gift shopping, glögi drinking, or simply wandering around and enjoying the atmosphere.

4. Create a Christmas playlist.

Make a playlist of your favourite Christmas songs, or if you really can’t stand them, a playlist of other music that puts you in a good mood and compliments the season.

5. Follow HC Helsinki’s Advent Calendar!

We have daily posts going up on Facebook, with all kinds of Christmas fun from event suggestions to seasonal recipes. Follow our Facebook page here, Christmas spirit is guaranteed.
