Wavy Eyebrows? More Like Wave Goodbye

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

I am all for self-expression. Go ahead and let your freak flag fly. But wavy eyebrows? Why?

If you haven’t seen already, wavy eyebrows or “squiggle eyebrows” are the newest trend blowing up on our newsfeeds. There’s even a new Snapchat filter for them.

But why? According to Huffington Post, “Beauty blogger Promise Tamang has been credited with starting the trend on her Instagram page.” Promise dares to be different in her Instagram post, and while some girls are all on board, most of the world just seems to be confused.

What are the angles involved in forming these squiggly brows?!

How?! If you’re daring enough to try out the trend, Mirror UK tells us the trick to these wavy brows: “First, you have to create the wavy shape using washable glue (because you don’t really want to permanently pluck them into squiggles!), color them in, then intricately paint on concealer to give the squiggles defined edges.” Wowza. I don’t know about you, but that is way more work than I am willing to do—especially when I’m still trying to figure out how do my eyebrows normally!

Are they “on fleek” yet? I still can’t tell. *shrugging emoji*

Why do we want this?! Advocates for the wavy eyebrow are boasting about creativity and individuality. The face is a canvas for self-expression. But on the flip side, some have called the wavy brow “Halloween makeup” or even “drag makeup.” I also believe it is important for girls to embrace their natural beauty—and that includes natural (not squiggly) eyebrows.

In the end, wavy brows aren’t for me. But whether or not you want to embrace this new trend is up to you. If you’re all about that ~wavy~ brow, go for it, girl!
