Halloween in Hawaii

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

Walking around Waikiki can be fun, but it’s not the only thing you can do to feel the Halloween spirit. Oahu is filled with different options not only on Halloween night, but all week long around the island.

Zombie&Chill

Releasing some pent up anger? Look no further than “The Revenge of Dr. Carnage” and “General Savage’s Zombie Uprising.” Running all week until Halloween, and a special blackout walk through with only glow sticks on Nov.1. Across from Fisher Hawaii in Kakaako, the paintball arena features two rooms in which people are welcome to shoot at “real zombies.” Presale tickets run at $15, $20 at the door.

Haunted House

In need for an interactive experience during your haunted houses? The Outbreak Experience in Ward Village allows audiences to live through a zombie outbreak. Open from Oct. 28 to Halloween, the “fully, immersive, interactive theatrical haunted attraction” start at 6 P.M. every night. Tickets are $20 and the show runs every 15 minutes with 20 guests per show.

Free Movie

It may not be grape eyeballs and spaghetti intestines, but Kahua Cafe will be open this week on the 28th for a special free screening of “Hotel Transylvania”. Great for not only those in college, but also their families. Offering teas, coffees and a variety of pastries in the Ward Village, students will be able to get quick and easy transportation to see this family-friendly film.

Dole Plantation

A classic on Oahu, Nightmare at Dole Plantation 3 features two attractions on Friday and Saturday. If you’re looking for a less terrifying night with BAE (or potential BAE), try out the 20-minute train ride while relaxing with a cool Dole Whip to hear storyteller Lopaka Kapanui. In total, you’ll only be spending $19.

Rocky Horror in Hawaii

Come see the official screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” with a full bar, snacks, and goodie bags. The 40th anniversary of the cult classic-the ARTS at Marks Garage will be providing a live interactive show accompanied by a shadow cast to lead you through the songs and dances with costumes encouraged. Available for purchase that night will be the always fun prop boxes for $5. The show runs from Oct. 29 through Nov. 1 with doors opening 30 minutes before the event.

Haunted Plantation

Named one of the most insane haunted houses in America by Buzzfeed, Haunted Plantation celebrates its 10th anniversary of scaring the people of Waipahu. The organization even collects groups of left behind slippers every year from visitors who run too fast for their shoes. Supposedly haunted by past spirits, this year’s theme is “Obake’s Revenge.” Running from 7 to 11 P.M., general admission is $15, or a $20 fast pass.

Pancakes

You have been walking around Waikiki all night looking at costumes and you are HANGRY. MAC 24/7 has a “Halloween After Hours All You Can Eat” for $20. If you are still feeling the need for some drinks, they will be offering $5 draft beers, $5 Bacardi or Fireball, and $6 Red Bull Vodkas to keep you up all night long. The gourmet junk food buffet is also offering $3 valet parking when you dine at MAC 24/7.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Already missing Halloween? Check out “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at the Blaisdell Concert Hall accompanied by a live performance played live by the Hawaii Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Stuart Chafetz. After Oct. 26, students will be allowed a $13 rush for tickets online.
