Name: Stephanie Shelby Cruz

Age: 19

Major: Marketing and International Business

Describe your first impression of the University of Hawaii:
I was speechless! I had dreamed about going to this school for a while and I had been looking up pictures online a few months before I saw the University of Hawaii for the first time, but nothing could compare to seeing it in person. From the start, I really fell in love with the atmosphere and had such a good feeling about my decision to attend school here. I also remember thinking the three-person statue was actually a real group of people who just happened to be in the same place every time I passed by. I was mesmerized by all of the tall palm trees around campus, how huge the campus was, and how green and beautiful all of the plants were. When I saw this campus for the first time, it was hard to stop smiling.

What is your favorite part about going to school here?

My favorite part about going to school here is knowing that while I’m studying what I’m passionate about, I’m also surrounded by lots of wonderful people and so many breathtaking views. A million and one things could be going wrong, but when the sun is shining with a rainbow high up in the sky, it’s hard not to be happy. Going to school here has opened up so many new opportunities for me and I couldn’t imagine going to school anywhere else.  Everyday I experience a new adventure and with that comes so many memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. It’s not always easy packing up your things and leaving a place you’ve called home for the past 18 years, but attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has created another place that I could call home. Over the past 1 and a half years, I’ve really grown as an individual and I’m excited to continue this journey.

How did you get involved with PINK?

As a freshman, I was involved in the Direct Admit Program at the Shidler College of Business. My mentor in that program was a Victoria’s Secret Campus Representative at the time and introduced me to the whole PINK Campus program and told me what it was like. I applied to help out and be on the PINK Street Team during my freshmen year and got chosen to be on it. The PINK Street Team is a group of girls who help out the 2 main campus reps throughout the school year. After a year of volunteering on the PINK Street Team, the position to be a Victoria’s Secret PINK Representative opened up. I was extremely interested and really wanted the job, but I never thought that PINK would even consider me. Even though I had doubts, I decided to apply. Next thing you know I found myself interviewing and then received an email a few weeks later with the good news. I had never been so happy in my life.

How have you grown from being a rep?

Before being a rep I was interested in studying marketing, but wasn’t totally sold on it. Ever since I became a representative for PINK, my mindset has changed so much. I’ve never been so sure about anything in my life before and by being a rep, I know now that I made the right decision to be going into the business world. I have certainly grown a lot from being a rep. This position has taught me so much responsibility and allows me to use my creativity almost everyday. Being a PINK Campus Representative has given me the opportunity to meet and connect with so many different people, which is one of my favorite things to do. PINK is such an amazing company to be working for and I’m so grateful to be able to represent the brand on campus.

What is your dream job and why?

Every year I change my mind about what my dream job is. I think the problem with me is that I always want to be doing so many different things at once. I can’t imagine myself sitting at the same desk for the next 40+ years of my life doing the same thing every single day. As of right now, my dream job is to be working for BuzzFeed. I would love to deal with Brand marketing or Marketing for BuzzFeed Motion Pictures. Basically I would kill to have any job there that has to do with marketing really! BuzzFeed is such a modern company that has taken the entertainment business in a whole new direction! Working there seems like such a positive environment to be around. I’m fascinated by the sense of humor that the BuzzFeed brand carries and demonstrates in everything that they do. Another dream of mine is to open up a cute little bakery somewhere around the world because I have the biggest sweet tooth and baking for people is one of my passions.

If you could….

If you could change one thing about the world it would be:

If I had the power to change one thing in the world, I’d try and eliminate all of the negativity across the globe. I believe that as humans, we were all born to help each other rise, not fall. There’s nothing I would love more than to see everyone happy, healthy, and being able to do what they love while being surrounded by the people they love the most.

If you could have a million dollars how would you spend it:

I would travel and explore the world with the people that I love.

If you went on a date with One Direction, what would you wear?

I’d probably send a cardboard cut out of myself with some sort of fierce Beyoncé inspired outfit on to the date, because honestly, going on a date with One Direction is the last thing that I want to do.

If you had one day left, how would you spend it?

If I had one day left, I’d wake up in my dream mansion and eat a well-balanced breakfast. I’d get ready while jamming out to my favorite songs from the 90s, hop into my Audi R8, and drive down the PCH taking my dogs with me. I’d then meet up with all of my family members and close friends on the beach for a barbeque. Then there’s nothing I would want more than to sit on a fancy throne while they all roast me and share their favorite memories with me. We would sit around a campfire and sing classic campfire songs and do some sweet star gazing as well.

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pad thai, because pad thai is everything I’ve ever dreamed of and everything that I’ve ever wanted in a dish. It’s simply perfect.
