Though it’s only the spring semester for college students, it is an important time for high schoolers because it’s prom season. This is one of the most exciting experiences for teens in high school. Thanks to The Bella Project, those of us in college have something to be excited about too! The purpose of TBP is to help foster girls or those who come from low income families pick out a dress that will make their night a memorable one. I had the opportunity to help out this weekend with the Beta Beta Gamma Sorority at UH; it is great community service that supports women all over, making sure that the girls leave with a smile on their face.

Here are the rules:

  • Help the girls choose three dresses of their choice then narrow those down to one.
  • Choose one accessory that can go with their dress.
  • Choose a pair of heels.
  • Choose one makeup item or a perfume.

The best part of this is that the entire thing is FREE! They don’t have to pay for anything.

It is inspiring community service because all of the dresses, accessories and shoes received is donated from girls all over who have outfits in their closet that they don’t use anymore.

This past event was in honor of Haylie who chose a dress a couple of years ago for the Kapiolani Medical Hospital Prom. Her dad was her date and they danced to “Dance With My Father.” Unfortunately, due to her brain cancer she passed away last year. Rest in peace, Haylie.
