5 Classic Cheesy Christmas Movies to Indulge in this Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

Well, it’s that time of the year again! Time to break out the Christmas decorations, drink some hot chocolate and settle in for a good holiday movie. Although some may question what your definition of “good” is… sometimes the cheesier the better when it comes to holiday movies! Although movies like The Grinch, Rudolph, Elf, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone are some family favorites, they are not nearly as cheesy as the others on this list! From Freeform (ABC Family) original movies to Hallmark Channel, there is a cheesy Christmas movie for everyone to secretly indulge in.

Below contains a small list of some pretty cheesy, but good Christmas movies we can all watch this holiday season!

Holiday In Handcuffs

(Freeform/ABC Family original)

Although this movie came out in 2007 it is still a holiday favorite for many who were lucky enough to see its debuted or have watched a rerun since then. Holiday in Handcuffs is definitely for anyone who loves a good cheesy romantic comedy. Starring Melissa Joan Hart (Trudie) and Mario Lopez (David) along with other notable actors, this movie is full of laughs with its crazy plot twists. This movie is for anyone who has ever felt the pressure of coming home with a special someone for the holidays or found themselves hidden in the shadow of another sibling. Even if you can’t quite relate, this movie will definitely have you laughing with its quirky storyline for sure! Holiday in Handcuffs can be found on the Freeform app, Freeform channel, as well as Hulu and iTunes. Snowglobe

(Freeform/ABC Family original)

The movie Snowglobe is another instant cheesy holiday classic that came out in 2007 as well on Freeform (ABC Family). The main character, Angela, dreams of finally having a perfect Christmas when she is given a snowglobe unknowing it is magical. With the help of some Christmas magic, It turns out Angela can visit the little Christmas town inside of the globe! To her surprise, a few of the towns people become curious about the outside world and follow Angela back. Will she choose to live in this perfect holiday town instead of her own, or will she get trapped there in the process? You can find out by watching this ABC Family classic on the Freeform app, Freeform channel, iTunes, or Amazon prime!

Santa Baby

(Freeform/ABC Family Original)

One last ABC Family original Christmas movie that I end up watching every year is Santa Baby! This movie was made back in 2006 and is definitely a family friendly and comedic film. The film stars Jenny McCarthy, as Mary Class, who is a very important business woman that also happens to be the daughter of Santa Claus. Yup, that’s right, Santa Claus. Mary does not have much to do with the “family business” until her father becomes ill, which means she either has to take his place in being Santa Claus or no one is getting a visit from him this Christmas. Did I mention she happens to run into a lost love along the way? Will she be able to take on the task of being Santa and saving Christmas? Will she reconnect with her lost love? Find out by watching it on Hulu, or on DVD. Plus, if you happen to really enjoy this cheesy classic, there is a Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe you can watch as well. Santa Baby 2 is available on Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon Prime.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

(Hallmark Channel original)

Moving to another channel that tends to produce some of the best cheesy classic Christmas movies is the Hallmark Channel. Although a large number of their movies do have the same premise and ending, it’s fun to watch how they change up the stories in every movie. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is a movie I have to watch at least once every Christmas season. A single mother, Jennifer, invites her uncle Ralph, played by Henry Winkler, over for Christmas when he befriends a stranger at the airport. Ralph, along with the stranger, Morgan, try to help Jennifer get back into the Christmas spirit as she feels the stresses of the holiday season. Will Jennifer be able to pull off the ultimate Christmas for her child as well as for her boyfriend’s family, or will something distract her while in the process? You can watch The Most Wonderful Time of the Year on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, iTunes, or catch it on the Hallmark Channel this Holiday season!

Mrs. Miracle

(Hallmark Channel Original)

Continuing with the Hallmark Channel movie originals, the movie Mrs. Miracle is another instant classic! A recently widowed father of twins is struggling to get through the holiday season when a mysterious woman by the name of Mrs. Miracle, Doris Roberts, shows up to become the new housekeeper for his family. Past housekeepers have been run out of the house due to the behavior of his children, will this new one be able to handle them? Something tells me with the help of a little Christmas magic, the boys will not be the only ones who end up benefiting from a visit from mysterious Mrs. Miracle. If you end up loving this movie, you can watch the second one titled Call me Mrs. Miracle! You can find the movie Mrs. Miracle on YouTube, Amazon Prime, iTunes, Google Play and the Hallmark Channel.

Although some of these movies are cheesier than others, I think we can all agree that they are all instant Christmas classics once you watch them. Who cares if they are predictable or not the best quality? They each have unique storylines that make them just a little different from the others! So, if you are needing a movie to watch while taking a break from studying for finals or a good family movie for everyone to watch when you come home, consider watching one of these! If none of these interest you, then there are numerous other ABC Family and Hallmark Channel original movies out there for you to pick from!
