The Rules of Surviving a Scary Movie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

1. Watch during the day

Nothing shakes you out of scary movie mode like sunshine

2. Watch with friends

Everything’s more fun with friends, and you’re safer in a pack

3. When things start escalating, try commenting on the plot holes or talking out loud to the characters

Everything’s a lot funnier when you realize how far you are from what’s happening on the screen

4. Snacks make everything better

It’s called comfort food for a reason

5. If it starts to be too much, mute it

It isn’t quite so suspenseful without the dramatic score and screams

6. If it gets too real, turn the lights on

Nothing contrasts a supernatural murder scene like your dirty laundry and Animal House poster.

7. Cover your eyes when it gets too graphic

It can’t hurt you if you can’t see it, right?
