It can be hard to toe the line between a hook up and a relationship. That’s why it’s so important to make it clear what you want out of a relationship. While direct communication is key, here are a few ways to make sure you don’t send mixed signals when all you want is a hook up.

DO

Make song recommendations

DON’T

Send them a personalized playlist

DO

Ask them out for drinks

DON’T

Ask them out for coffee, a mid-day activity, or a fancy date

DO

Stay the night if you’re both game

DON’T

Leave a toothbrush, clothes, etc at their place

DO

Call them friendly nicknames, like Dude

DON’T

Call them cutesy nicknames, like Boo, Baby, Sweetie, Love, Honey, etc.

DO

Be affectionate in private

DON’T

Go for the hello or good bye kiss, especially in public

DO

Meet the roommates

DON’T

Invite yourself over to hang out with them

DO

Text when you wanna meet up

DON’T

Text them all day

Honestly, the best thing to do is to be upfront, both with them, and with yourself. If you want something casual, be casual, and if you don’t, then don’t. Make it clear, and get on with doing you <3
