Eating My Way Through San Diego: Sweet Eats!

Chapter 2 of my San Diego food adventure! Link to Chapter 1: https://www.hercampus.com/school/harvard/eating-my-way-through-san-diego-asian-food

One of my greatest weaknesses is my sweet tooth. I love all things chocolate, and every pastry known to man. So, of course, a big part of my food journey through San Diego was sweet eats! Here is a list of my favorite brunch and dessert locations in San Diego!

1. Cardamom Café and Bakery

This is one of my favorite brunch spots in San Diego! There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but definitely try to sit outdoors when the weather is nice. The staff is also so friendly and welcoming. My favorite menu item here is the croissant french toast topped with strawberries and their housemade toasted hazelnuts and Belgian chocolate. The bread is warm and fluffy, and the hazelnut and chocolate combo satisfies any sweet tooth. Pair this with their delectable iced coffee, and your mind will be blown!

2. Original Pancake House

This breakfast joint is popular among locals so expect a substantial wait before you can get your pancakes. However, once you are seated and have the menu in front of you, you will be faced with a plethora of pancake choices. The menu items are unique and delicious, and you will definitely have a hard time picking what to order. The portion sizes are also huge. Each stack comes with 6 fluffy pancakes. My suggestion is to go with friends and order many different pancakes so you can share and try as many types as possible. They are known for their apple pancake (made with granny smith apples) but my favorite is definitely the banana nut pancake!

3. Bobboi Natural Gelato

If you ever find yourself in San Diego, you must go to Bobboi Natural Gelato. This is the best gelato I have ever had. Yes, you will have to wait in line for at least 20 minutes, and yes, it is pricier than most dessert places, but that just goes to show how delicious their flavors are! This dessert is the best complement to a beach day at La Jolla, which is where they are located. Their creative flavors include berry lavender, rosewater and honey, charcoal vanilla, and matchatella (a combination of matcha and Nutella)! Even their more typical flavors such as pistachio, mango, and watermelon are more delicious than you could imagine.

4. Señor Mango's

Señor Mango's is a fruit and smoothie heaven for those who prefer a slightly healthier dessert. Their fruit salads, parfaits, and smoothies are perfect for a warm afternoon! The location itself is small and has very little indoor seating, but it is great for grabbing and going on a walk around the cute neighborhood it resides in. The prices are super reasonable for large portions. They have traditional Mexican chile topping for those who like a kick to their sweets. The fruit is also extremely fresh! I definitely recommend giving this place a visit if you are a fan of Mexican fruit carts!
