Although I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, I have been a Kansas City Chiefs fan since birth; both of my parents and my entire extended family are from the cute little city at the edge of Missouri, so consequently, the Chiefs are OUR team. Here are 10 reasons why they should be yours too:

1. They just won a Super Bowl for the first time in 51 YEARS.

This is a pretty big deal. 51 years is a looooong time, but the Chiefs were able to finally bring home a championship and end their dry spell after years of struggle.

2. They have some of the best fans in the world.

If you see the literal sea of red in Arrowhead Stadium, you’ll know what I mean.

3. Patrick Mahomes

The 24-year-old phenom has been the front-runner in the Chiefs’ wild success. With his accuracy, athleticism, and ability to make big plays at crucial times, Mahomes is a force to be reckoned with on the field but remains an all-around good and humble guy.

4. Travis Kelce

Not only is this man an amazing tight-end for the Chiefs, but his looks, style, and overall swag are pretty much unmatched.

5. They somehow make red and gold look good together.

I mean, who does that?

6. They’re a come-from-behind team.

One of the most exhilarating football games I’ve ever watched was the AFC semi-final this year. The Chiefs were down 24 (yes 24!) to nothing. It seemed as if all hope was lost. But they went on an unbelievable 51-7 run, defeating the Houston Texans 51-31 and earning their right to go to the AFC championship game. In the Super Bowl, they did it again, they were down 10-20 in the third quarter, but scored three touchdowns in the last to secure their win. Ultimate clutch team.

7. Everybody loves an underdog

After the aforementioned 51 years without even going to the Super Bowl, including a tragic loss in the AFC Championship Game in 2019, I would say the Chiefs are the ultimate underdog team, rising to the top when no one was expecting it.

8. They’re a family-run team

The Chiefs are owned by the Hunt family; currently, Clark Hunt, who is the son of Lamar Hunt, founder of the American Football League. This year, when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship, Clark Hunt received the Lamar Hunt Trophy, named in honor of his father, for the first time in history. What a heart-warming moment.

9. They’ll make you happy

10. Their future’s looking bright!

With Mahomes as their leader and many other great players returning for coming seasons, it’s looking like more championships could be in the Chiefs’ future. The question is: will you be cheering for them?
