Music, more specifically in the form of song, plays a big part in everyone’s daily life. There is a song for any time, any place or mood, and although many would rather use the same song, there are enough for you to have a different song for your daily lip synching sessions on SnapChat. Amazing, right? It is there when you are at your best- when you just got a new job, when you are getting married, or just happy in general, and it is there for you at your worst- when you are going through a breakup, when your favorite person passes, when you are angry, or when you are just not having a good day. Now music is not just for the ups and downs, it’s also for the neutrals- when you just want to vibe, when you are calm, or just busy. Music not only has the power to relate to emotions, but it also has the power to change emotions. Everyone has that one song that will always make them smile, cry, relax, or get pumped. Although music is powerful and great, not all  music gets the recognition it deserves. Whether it be because people simply have not heard it, the artist does not have the best catalogs and people do not give it a chance, or it has been forgotten or not recognized by the newer generation. While this does not account for all of the underrated and undervalued songs, it is a start, and maybe, this will challenge you to dig deeper into the world of songs you have never heard before or never really gave a chance.

As I Am by Kehlani

This is a song that a majority of people can relate to. Whether it be that person at your job, school, or that celebrity crush you spend time with, in your dreams, if you feel like you are helplessly in love, this is the song for you. It definitely verbalizes all of the feelings that come with that.

Treadmill by LightSkinKeisha

The beat of this song in itself is enough to help pump you up. This is a song you would listen to if you are in the mood to be productive or if you are trying to get motivated to to get up and do something such as exercise, as the title implies.

Call Me Back by Trinidad Cardona

Ever been ignored? Are you a little salty about it? While this is the song for those feelings, unlike most, you could actually turn up to this song once you get out of your feelings, which it can definitely help with.

Hot Cakes by Taylor Girlz

Definitely a song that you would listen to when you are feeling yourself . You could even listen to this with your friends when you are getting ready for a party or any other event, as long it is not a funeral. Well, actually, to each its own.

Dirty Water by Marc E. Bassy

You could definitely listen to this song on a day trip when you are in the mood to just vibe. It is an easy song to learn, so you and your friends could scream the lyrics in unison with the windows rolled all the way down.

Paris Nights/New York Mornings by Corinne Bailey Rae

While Corinne Bailey Rae is arguably one of the best songwriters ever, she does not get a lot of recognition from the younger demographic. It is almost impossible to listen to this song and be in a bad mood. You could listen to this song if you are happy and want a happy vibe or just need to lift your spirits.

Tipsy by Chloe x Halle

This is a song for people who feel like they are being pushed to the edge. While they dont sing the song angrily, you definitely can. If you are feeling like you want to get a little crazy, then this is the song for you.

See You Again by Tyler, The Creator (ft. Kali Uchis)

This song is for those who are lovestruck but you don’t feel like getting sappy, and it can put a smile on your face.

The Very Thought of You by Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole is one of the greats, but younger people don’t always give his music a chance. This is another song for those who are lovestruck, but this song is definitely sappy. It’s a song you would listen to while smelling roses or taking a stroll in the park.

Did It Again by Shakira

If you keep falling into bad habits but don’t care, this is your anthem. This song can make you feel excited or even full of energy.

Sunday Morning by Mary Mary

This song is also one that can get you excited, especially if you love church. You could play this when getting ready  to watch church or during the week to motivate you to keep going.

Chasing Amy by TeaMarrr

If you feel doubtful that anyone would like the real you, this is the song for you. It’s not peppy or sad; it is more so one that would fall in the middle.

Time Machine by Willow

This one is for all of the old souls out there, who need something to relate to. Even if you are not an old soul, it is a great song to vibe and relax to.

Mad by Solange (ft. Lil Wayne)

In the climate that we are in, all black people can relate to this song. Not only does it address the fact that you can be mad, but it also lets you know that you do not have to stay mad.

I Get Out (Live) by Lauryn Hill

Miss Lauryn Hill is one of the best like others who have songs on this list, but this song in particular does not get as much play as it should. It speaks to those who are tired of being mistreated and treated like less than they know they are.

There are plenty of great songs out there that you have probably never heard before, but you can easily change that. Here are a few more: Not Friendly by Flo Milli, Tell You The Truth by Trevor Jackson, Feels by Snoh Aalegra, Good At by Megan Thee Stallion, DUI by Teyana Taylor (ft. Fabolous & Jadakiss), Love You Too Much by Lucky Daye. The next time you have the time, you should try listening to a song you have never heard before. You never know you, may just like it!
