This summer millions of people from across the globe united to discuss one thing: Love Island! With 18.4 billion minutes streamed on Peacock, thousands of think pieces on Twitter and hundreds of viral videos on TikTok, the world showcased their commitment and love for the show; which is why when the reunion date was announced with Andy Cohen as a co-host (the show’s beloved host, Ariana Madix), fans were buzzing with excitement to see the update on their favorite islanders.
Fans left the long-anticipated reunion with mixed reviews. Some felt that Huda refused to take full accountability, while others felt she apologized too much. Others felt that Chelley and Ace, refused to take accountability for their actions. Keep scrolling to see the most memorable moments of the night.
1. Bryan addresses cheating allegations
There had been several rumors of Bryan cheating and Amaya and Bryan breaking up, but the two debunked those immediately.
Cohen asked Bryan about the video of him interacting with other women at the club, to which Bryan responded with it was “a lapse in judgement.” He asked Chris to back him up, and Chris cosigned saying “I didn’t see anything.”
Amaya says they did talk about it but reassures the audience that they are still going strong. The two mentioned that they’ve gotten even closer after spending more time with each other’s family.
2. Huda and Chris discuss their relationship
Huda and Chris paired off towards the end of the season, after Casa Amor, and quickly grew to be fan favorites.
Chris seemed to be the guy that could handle Huda’s sometimes explosive personality.
However, after the two make it to the final episode, everything fell apart. They chose to break up (in an iconically hilarious way) but remained cordial throughout the episode.
Post-villa, Huda trashed and mocked Chris on a podcast, which he wasn’t happy about. She apologized for what she said days before the reunion to which Chris responded, “I don’t respect that. I don’t allow people to talk about me like that in my life.” He said he cannot continue having any kind of relationship, platonic or romantic, with Huda.
This moment led to another “fan-favorite” snippet where Huda was asked about her new relationship and claimed, “I can’t speak about my relationships outside the villa” for “legal reasons.” Fans found this funny, even using the sound on TikTok to poke fun at the reality star.
Chris also delivered several “meme”-able reactions towards Huda throughout the duration of the night, which were noted by the fans.
3. Jeremiah and Ace discuss the INFAMOUS dumping
Jeremiah finally had the chance to confront the boys that voted him off the Island. Ace, who was repeatedly called the “ringleader” by viewers, was believed to had led the vote to remove Jeremiah.
The unseen footage of that moment, however, showed that Nic chose to remove Austin, but was instead outvoted by Ace and Taylor, slightly debunking the ringleader theory.
This made Jeremiah smile, saying he “felt better” knowing Nic was on his side! Since, Nic and Jeremiah have been showing love to each other on social media.
Still Ace and Jeremiah were left with some friction, due to Ace’s unwavering commitment to his beliefs that Jeremiah wasn’t “playing the game properly.”
4. Olandria & Chelley confront Huda
Post-villa, everyone seemed to be getting along… for about a week.
The final four couples: Amaya and Bryan, Nic and Olandria, Pepe and Iris, and Huda and Chris, all shared an Airbnb in LA.
On a TikTok live, Nic showcased Olandria and Huda’s seemingly close friendship, with the two cuddled up, claiming this is exactly how they were in the villa.
Surprisingly, a few weeks later, Huda’s Call her Daddy interview dropped where she stated that she “felt bullied” in the villa. A few racist fans accused Chelley and Olandria of being the bullies and began spewing racism and hate towards the two. At some point a disgusting image of Olandria’s face plastered on George Floyd’s body circulated the internet.
The two black women revealed that they asked Huda to release a statement denouncing the racism, to which she agreed. However, she stated that she was “too busy” and forgot to do so.
Olandria and Chelley expressed how hurt they were that she didn’t defend them, with Olandria even shedding some tears.
Huda apologized more than once, but it wasn’t enough.
Chelley stated that she can’t “trust Huda as a friend” but she wishes her well “from a distance.”
5. The Long-awaited full footage of the Heart Rate challenge
The heart rate challenge is a fan-favorite, especially after season 6, and viewers were excited to see this fun challenge to break up the ongoing chaos. But it only made tensions worse. At the reunion, Chelley once again confronted Huda after she felt her portion of the challenge went too far.
Cohen and Maddox showed full footage of the heart rate challenge for viewers to see. Some people believe Huda’s behavior was inappropriate, others believe she was just trying to win the challenge.
Huda again apologized for her part in the challenge, but Chelley didn’t seem to fully accept. Either way, there seems to have been too many bridges burnt between the two.
There were several other moments that fans talked about including: Hannah receiving closure after her dumping; Coco and Olandria’s interaction regarding Coco’s unwarranted mention of Olandria on a podcast; Taylor’s weak apology to Olandria for never telling her that he wasn’t “physically attracted” to her, using the words “You still my dawg”; Nick saying he would not be reaching out to Cierra; and Belle-A & Jeremiah’s relationship rumors.
Regardless of where you stand on these islanders, it is undeniable the amount of success that this show has achieved. Whether you were team Chelly or team Huda, team Jeremiah or team Ace, you were seated 5 days out of the week to see what was happening in the villa. This cast provided the world with so much entertainment these few months, and everyone is waiting to see what they will do with this instant fame outside of the villa.
