This summer is the year of trying new hobbies, and what better hobby to slow down and recharge than starting a new book. If you don’t know where to start, here is a list of 5 books that are perfect for beach reading or reading in between your summer internship.

  • It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey is the perfect romance novel to start your summer. This novel will allow you to enter the summer vibes after a long, hard semester at school. The novel is set in a fishing village of Westport, Washington which gives the ultimate summer vibe. This novel leaves readers with the feeling that love is possible no matter the circumstances. Bailey has created a feel good novel that is perfect and allows readers to enter the world of Westport, Washing from wherever they are.

  • The Housemaid by Frida McFadden

After a romance book, you need a good thriller to balance out the drama. The Housemaid by Frida McFadden is the perfect novel for you. McFadden creates a story of twist and turns that keeps readers engaged the whole story. You may think this story is about a boring housemaid by Frida McFadden, books are never what they seem.

  • Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

Seven Days in June is a beautiful love story between two writers, Eva and Shane, who have met at a young age and connected for a week. 15 years later they connect and their love story continues. This is a story of real and raw romance which is perfect for the summer time. It explores the lasting power of true love, which some might be experiencing during this summer and wanting to know what true love is real.

  • Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis

The summer is a perfect time to start your inspiration for the next school year. Finding Me by Viola Davis, is the perfect memoir to bring that inspiration. Davis tells traumatic stories from her childhood that inspired her acting journey and have molded her into the woman she is today. After reading this memoir, I felt inspired to use traumatic experiences as a source of strength and growth, turning my pain into power.

  • James by Percival Everett

A perfect summer read is James by Percival Everett. James is the retelling of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. My personal favorite read of 2025. This story constantly keeps readers on the edge of their seat while creating a beautiful story between the two main characters, Jim and Huck. This is the perfect read to end of your summer reading, as it challenges the view of classic literature and creates thought provoking discussion.

From feel-good romance to powerful memoirs and reimagined classics, this TBR list has something for every kind of reader. So grab a your favorite book, find your favorite reading spot, and allow these stories to take you on a journey this summer.
