*SPOILER ALERT* What I Missed From Black Panther the FIRST Time

Movies are amazing the first time, but imagine seeing it TWICE! Black Panther is a Marvel comic turned Best Movie of 2018. Aside from an almost all black cast, Black Panther features some of the most notable actors and actresses in our era. The movie tells an intricate story of Prince T’Challa and his coming into King T’Challa, and all battles in between. Being that I am not an avid comic reader, Marvel was mostly a foreign realm. I watched Black Panther the first time for the plot. It was so amazing that I had to see it twice, and the second time there were so many other things to unlock. Keep reading for just a few pieces of the puzzle that I missed when I saw the movie the first time.

1. There are TWO post credit scenes.

No, the movie was not over when you thought it was. Marvel movies are known for their post credit scenes, and plenty of people were upset finding out they stayed for the first post credit scene, but not the second. The first post credit scene featured King T’Challa and the “gang” speaking in front of the United Nations about how they had vibranium to offer to the world. This was followed by another roll of credits, and then another scene. This scene features Shuri and a very important character from Captain America: Civil War; Bucky Barnes. This ending could be a *hint hint* at the next Marvel movie breakthrough and its featured characters. Next time, we have to wait until the theatre lights come up.

2. The narration in the beginning of the movie was being told by Michael B Jordan (Killmonger) character (Prince N’Jobu).

It was a common misconception that at the beginning of the movie the voice that was heard talking over the movie intro was the voice of future Wakandian king, T’Challa. However, the voice was of his “not-so-popular in the movie, but popular in real life” younger cousin Killmonger aka Michael B Jordan, also known as, Prince N’Jobu.

3. The “colonizer” was the SECOND white boy that Wakanda fixed. .

Yes, Shuri’s technological advancements are, well, “like that”. CIA Agent Ross was not the first white boy to be medically fixed in Wakanda, or use Wakandian resources, like vibranium. The first colonizer to be fixed was actually Bucky Barnes. His brain was in the process of being “de-brainwashed” at the end of Captain America: Civil War.

4. M’Baku attributed his challenging reasoning against T’Challa to Shuri being in charge of technology.

In the scene when T’Challa challenged M’Baku many people caught that the challenge was because of what he believed was T’Challa’s lack of strength. However, the first reason given was that his sister was in charge of technology. M’Baku believed she was a child and was not capable of being in charge of such a large responsibility.

5. Okoye flys the “plane” that her, T’Challa, and Lupita are in with just her finger tips.

Wakanda technology has won again. They are so technologically advanced that Okoye was able to fly her shuttle with just her fingertips. How is that for black women being amazing at everything?

6. Nakia was apart of the Dora Milaje which is T’Challa’s personal bodyguard.

If you are wondering why T’Challa’s love interest Nakia, was such a great warrior, it is because she was previously a part of the Dora Milaje tribe before she became a spy for Wakanda in America. Hence, why she initially did not want to put on the outfit in the Wakanda battle against Killmonger.

7. T’Challa could’ve been the Leopard.

Shuri offered two necklace options to T’Challa when she revamped his Black Panther costume: a silver design or a gold design. T’Challa chose the silver design because the “point” of having the costume is to not be seen. The gold necklace was left, and Killmonger adopted that necklace as his costume when he became King of Wakanda. The design of the gold necklace featured a leopard design on the front of the mask instead of a solid black for Black Panther. Had T’Challa chosen the gold, he would be a leopard instead of a panther. Minor or major detail? You decide.

8. Black Panther’s first setting place was in Oakland, California which is very familiar to Ryan Coogler.

Being shot in Oakland is more of an interesting fact. Oakland, California is a reoccurring setting in many of Ryan Coogler’s movies. Ryan Coogler is an Oakland native and Fruitvale Station alongside Black Panther both have settings in Oakland.
