41 years since the death of Martin Luther King, 41 years of great work allowing progress toward the freedom and acceptance that black people still work for today. On this day we should be appreciative of the great work that Martin has done for us as a whole. A better society, a stronger community, and a voice for people to listen too. Sadly, on this day we still have profane people of power, constantly attacking the work Martin left for us. Justice Brett, a new member of the Supreme Court, has spoken upon taking action to take apart three great laws that Martin left for us as a community. These three laws include, The 1965 Civil Rights Act, the 1965 Voting Rights, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

To Brett, he has determined these three laws as, ‘outdated racial entitlements.’ Stating that they need to be put back in their place, that we need to be put back in our place. Along with Brett, four other members of the high court have come to an understanding that they will work to dismantle these laws. Many have come to the belief that these men will simply nudge at these laws and slowly diminish them. These actions of taking dismantling old laws has become a representation of what may soon be a dystopian society if those in power continue to abuse their power.

These abrupt actions of disassembling these laws is simply another representation of the lack of respect that is held upon people of color. We need to take a stand, we need to start responding to these acts of disrespect. It only takes one of us to really take speak up towards the actions. Martin did not leave us on their earth to reverse the blood, sweat and tears he put into giving us our freedom. During this Black history month take the time to really dig into the actions made to have us where we are today. Moreover, what do we need to do to get into a better position. Yes, Obama was president; yes, we made great strides during that time. Yet, he is no longer president, and we still have societal struggles as a black community. We need to start grinding ladies and gentlemen, we need to level up.
