How To Stay Happy and Stress Free In College

Going off to college can be a big adjustment for many students. Many go to colleges that are far away from home to become more independent in a sense, and the distance starts to affect them more than they would like it to. Being homesick can really damper any students happiness while in college, and it is important to always put your happiness first. College is supposed to be the best four years of your life, you should enjoy every second of it!

Stress is something that the majority of college students face throughout their tenure in college. Because of how easily stress can take over your everyday happiness, it is important to get a hold of it and its effects early on. Starting your assignments as soon as you receive them and working on them day by day alleviates the stress of having too many assignments due all at once. Procrastination is a leading cause of stress for college students, and it will only lead to mental self destruction. STOP PROCRASTINATING AND DO YOUR WORK AHEAD OF TIME!

Exercising is a big stress reliever as well. After a workout, most feel accomplished and satisfied. Just think of it like this: all of your stress and negative feelings are being released from your body as you sweat during your workout. This habit of exercising has personally helped me feel stress free and content with myself. Not only are you helping relieve stress from your body, you’re also getting in shape at the same time; it’s a win win situation!

Finding your own inner peace can make you feel happy anytime and anywhere. I personally meditate whenever I feel overwhelmed and it helps me balance my feelings and focus on my personal goals. Try taking long deep breaths and saying positive affirmations about yourself with your eyes closed for 5-10 minutes, and feel how much your energy has shifted. Meditation and prayer go a long way in finding inner peace, and that difference can make you truly happy inside and out.

Last but not least, surround yourself with positive and uplifting people! Sometimes your blessings are blocked because of the company that you keep, and it is important to only keep company that benefit and uplift all aspects of you. It does not take long for the company you keep to affect you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Stay happy and enjoy every second of college and life, period!
