Hip Hop Conference: Do You Still Love H.E.R?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

One of the most exciting events of the 2014-2015 school year kicked off on Wednesday, February 11, in McGrew Towers. The 2015 Hip Hop Conference: Do You Still Love H.E.R? began with a silent auction with artwork from Hampton University’s own students. The event turned out to be a success and the music as well as light snacks kept the silent auction flowing. The prices for the artwork were cut in half for the auction and half of the money went to the Hip-Hop Conference while the other half went to the artist. On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Student Center ballroom was filled all day with students’ anxious and ready to hear panelists that vary from different radio personalities in the Virginia area, local hip hop artists, and Hampton University’s very own, Freedom Williams, the co-founder of the international multi-platinum selling group C&C Music Factory. The conference focused on the discussion about the state of hip-hop and its influence on communities. The conference ended with an Evolution of Hip-Hop Showcase, which consisted of spoken word, dancing, and fun!
