Hampton Man Crush: La-Shawn “Tookie” Edwards

2016 has officially begun! You know what that means – more Hampton Man Crush articles! Our very first Man Crush is none other than La- Shawn David Edwards II. Most students on campus know him as “Tookie”. 

Tookie is a junior, Strategic Communications major with concentration from the Southside of Chicago. For the most part, Tookie is involved with everything imaginable on campus, and still continues to be occupied with things outside of school. He’ created a clothing company called Living Legend Empire along with a branding company. Not only does has he created those business ventures, but he’s also a popular barber here at Hampton. Fun fact: Tookie is currently developing his own belt and is creating his own shoes!  

These are just a few of the talents our Man Crush possesses.  Tookie can chef it up in the kitchen, he is an artist, and he gives back to Chicago. Lets not forget that he is speaks Spanish and Italian. Where he learned these many talents and business ventures, you will find out below.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

HMC: Currently I am a part of SLP, and I am on the men’s Lacrosse team, junior executive council, and I am a part of the marketing association.

HC: What’s something that you extremely passionate about?

HMC: I am extremely passionate about changing people’s perception about where I’m from. I want to change the way people think about Chicago, my dream is to become the mayor of Chicago.

HC: Is cutting hair a hobby or hustle for you and who taught you how to cut hair?

HMC: Everything that I do is a hustle for me, and I learned how to cut my own hair. I practiced on myself I used to actually cut myself I’ve lost an eyebrow all that. I’ve come a long way from how I used to cut.

HC: What’s your plan for the future?

HMC: My plan is to attend law school, and then after law school I want to open up a restaurant, a clothing store, and a consulting and marketing firm. I also want to open up a chain of barbershops and maybe even get my feet wet in real estate.

HC: What’s your relationship status?

HMC: Taken.

HC: If you could date any celebrity who would it be?

HMC: Megan Good.

HC: What are your favorite and most annoying qualities about yourself?

HMC: My favorite is my ambition I always like to do a bunch of different things. The most annoying qualities about myself if that I’m always busy.

HC: What’s the first thing you notice about a woman?

HMC: I like girl’s hair. I just like how a girl’s hair is styled then eyes, and definitely the shape of a woman.

HC: What is your relationship deal breaker (turn off)?

HMC: Not being able to trust your partner and comfortability, I feel like if I can’t be myself around you.

HC: Do you have a favorite campus hideout?

HMC: I like the museum because I like going to places where I can learn something, and it’s quiet.

HC: Would you prefer going to a party or a kick back?

HMC: Kickback! A party is with a bunch of people that you don’t really know but a kickback is with people that you want to be around.

HC: Do you prefer conscious rap or trap rap?

HMC: I like R&B music, but if I had to pick it would be conscious music.

HC: How would you describe your style?

HMC: Ambition of Jay-Z with a hint of Kanye.

HC: What’s the most romantic thing you’ve done for a girl?

HMC: I sent a girl flowers, a home spa treatment, and I made a spinach, grilled chicken pasta with a vodka sauce and red wine.  Then I made chocolate covered strawberries.

HC: Do you have a type?

HMC: She definitely has to be goofy, silly, and adventurous. I cannot stand a boring girl.

Ayo Sutherland is from Los Angeles California and she is currently a Sophomore Strategic Communications major, marketing minor at Hampton Univerisity. She enjoys doing water activities, loves listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Her main goal is to become a publicist and be know as the Olivia Pope of the Rap and Hip Hop industry and to be the best leader and role model to everyone. Her motto is, "Always remember that you are a not a yellow Starburst your a PINK ONE!"

When she's not busy studying, serving as a Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Hampton U or staying involved on Hampton's campus, she can be found at a local Starbucks, mall or on her yoga mat.
