Greek Of The Week: Ally Moreland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Her Campus had the pleasure of speaking with one of the Ladies of the Ravishing Rho Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Alexandria Moreland. She is a Senior Broadcast Journalism Major, Theatre minor hailing all the way from Howell New Jersey.HC: What made you interested in your organization?

AM: The Service that the Ladies of Zeta always did. I also admired their enthusiasm that they had for this organization as well as the genuine bond that they had with each other.

HC: How do you feel like being Greek, has changed your outlook on things?

AM: I am definitely more accountable for my actions and I feel like I am apart of something bigger than myself.  I love being productive within my community; especially when it comes to making a positive impact on people’s lives around me

HC: Do you find that dating is much harder now that you’re Greek?

AM: It is so much harder because you’re not sure if someone wants you because of your letters or if they just genuinely want to get to know you. I’m definitely more mindful of people and their intentions for me.

HC: Is Greek Life common where you’re from?

AM: It’s not really. I never really heard of it back in New Jersey and my immediate family isn’t Greek. Coming to Hampton was when I was first exposed to it.

HC: What’s the best part about having line sisters?

AM: The fact that they accept me for who I am. I can be a lot sometimes but they never leave my side. It’s just knowing that I’ll always have somebody to turn to and a shoulder to cry on. We always uplift each other and check each other when needed.

HC: Do you feel like people have a different perception of you because you’re Greek?

AM: I wouldn’t say that they’d have a bad perception of me, if anything, I feel like it has enhanced who I am as a person, and people look at me as a better version of myself. I try not to be someone that I’m not and I feel like as long as you’re genuine then people will see that. I’m still me behind these letters.

HC: Do you believe that the stereotypes about your organization are true? Why or why not?

AM: I usually hear that Zeta’s are not as attractive, but I feel like we break those barriers in terms of Rho Alpha. I feel like all of us are beautiful inside and out.

HC: What does sisterhood mean to you?

AM: Sisterhood means always being accountable for one another and being honest and genuine. Sometimes your sister is not always going to do something that you agree with, but it’s ok to tell them about it because you want what’s best for them. It’s about keeping it real with each other at all times

HC: What do you see yourself doing after you graduate?

AM: I plan on starting my career at a news station and picking up on with my acting. I’m very passionate about television and being a personality.

HC: What’s an interesting fact about you that a lot of people don’t know?

AM: A lot of people don’t know that I am allergic to grapes; they make my nose bleed. It’s crazy because grapes are my favorite fruit.
