Flotus Slays Magazine Cover

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

As the POTUS and FLOTUS final days in the White House get closer they’ve been leaving their legacy in the most tasteful and classy way. A few weeks ago ESSENCE released exclusive photos of Michelle and Barack as they graced their October special collector’s issue cover. Not too long after InStyle released their cover with Michelle posing gracefully on their October cover. With a role model like Michelle, black women in America have certainly been celebrating our proud black girl moments.

Just when we thought the slay was over The New York Times Style Magazine dropped their latest cover, and it was no surprise that once again, our beautiful and talented first lady graced the cover. Within hours this cover was all over Twitter and Instagram as the country praised her for her effortless beauty.

What was so iconic about this issue is that it is T Magazine’s second annual “The Greats Issue,” which highlighted some greats of our generation. The black and white cover featuring Michelle’s graceful look with minimal make-up and her pleasant smile demonstrates #BlackGirlMagic and truly shows us how Michelle’s classy and modern look will forever be remembered by our country.

Michelle is honored along with Lady Gaga, Junya Watanabe, Zadie Smith, Kerry James Marshall, ad other greats in this issue.

Accompanying the beautiful cover, T Magazine had four thank-you notes to Michelle Obama. The letters came from Chimamada Ngozi Adichie, Gloria Steinem, Jon Meacham, and Rashida Jones. All of the letters truly celebrate Michelle for her dedication to her country and the writers’ appreciation for her. The letters can be found here.

It’s safe to say that America will miss Michelle Obama, but she has certainly left a legacy and confirmed that it’s a great time to be a black girl spreading our magic!
