This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Homecoming is quickly approaching and for those who haven’t quite experienced a true HBCU Homecoming, you’re probably trying to prepare for such a Lituation. Every year, HBCUS’s across the globe celebrate its school’s rich traditions and show campus pride- It’s a time where alumni come together to reminisce with old friends and current students create new memories. Whether you’re visiting for the good food, music and festivities or to simply spend time with friends, either way, there is nothing like a Homecoming, HBCU Style. Here are a few tips to help your homecoming at HU flow smoothly!

1.Plan your outfits accordingly

With a week filled with festive events, it’s almost a must to have all of your flyest and fleekiest outfits already lined up. First, check the weather ahead of time, then execute. Not sure what to wear? Don’t sweat it, you can always check Pinterest for ideas or even Instagram for cute Fall looks. If you want to revamp your wardrobe for the week, sites like Misguided or Bohoo are always the go to.

1. Stick with Squad

As a freshman or visitor, it’s best to travel with close friends who know the campus well enough to guide you around.

2. Ball on a budget

As pleasing as binge shopping sounds…  Please do not empty your bank account for the sake of a few cute homecoming outfits. Sometimes it’s best to spend wisely, even if it means you sacrificing buying those to-die-for knee high boots.

3. Buy your tickets in advance

Ticket sales tend to sky rocket a few days before the event, so it’s always best to buy your ticket(s) ahead of time. To be on top of things, keep note of all the events you wish to attend; the more the merrier.

4. Transportation is everything

This can make or break your Homecoming experience. Sometimes it’s best to travel in large groups so you’re able to go half on a ride.  UBER is a major key, download it.

5. Stay Hydrated

No explanation needed, just remember… Water is your best friend! Sometimes you may even those electrolytes, and that’s where Gatorade comes in.

6. Pace Yourself

Understand that the Lit-tivities will always be there during Homecoming, however, you need time to turn down. Cut out a part of your day for rest….. And then Turn up.

7. Highlight your Trip

You may be too inebriated to even do so, but capture as much as you can on your phone; the memorable things of course. There’s nothing worse than going to event with your Favs and you forget to take flicks. These are moments that you and your friends will look back on.
