A [Censored] Interview with a Fab, Funny, Freaky, Fat Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

We all know those Twitter famous people who have some crazy stories to tell. Well every Friday, one Twitter celebrity shares one of many, and so far she has shared 19 of these stories with the world. Her name is @Smilleesims, and she’s from DC. These 19 stories that she has shared via Twitter, she recently turned into a book called (Uncensored) Memoirs of a Fab, Funny, Freaky, Fat Girl. I got the chance to talk with @Smilleesims and get all the details about her book.

HC: How did you become Twitter famous?

SS: I was dealing with this guy in college and we had sex, but later had a falling out. Then one day on campus, I had an economics panel and the guy was there! So when I saw him I decided to tweet about the situation and within an hour it had over 1,000 retweets. My phone was just blowing up that I had to turn it off. But when I turned it back on I saw that football player, Ochocinco retweeted it and said how he was basically in the air, on a plane laughing his a*s off about it. So pretty much, I became famous because that story went viral.

HC: How did you come up with the concept of (Uncensored) Memoirs of a Fab, Funny, Freaky, Fat Girl? Were your twitter stories the entire concept?

SS: Yes, they basically made my book. I graduated college December 2015, and began writing the book around the end of February, beginning of March. Then for the next 5-6 months, I was steady writing and having to put things in chronological order. Those months were more difficult than college, lol!

HC: Did you ever see yourself as an author or was it like a trial and error phase?

SS: I always wanted to write because when I first entered college, I was an English major but then I switched to Criminal Justice. But I always felt that I wanted to be an author, so when the opportunity came, I took it.

HC: Do any of the guys you wrote about know they are in the book?

SS: Most of the guys follow me on Instagram, so I’m pretty sure they know. Like I have two exes that live in Atlanta, so word probably has gotten around. Matter of fact, one guy asked was he in it, and he actually is (laughs)!

HC: How does your family feel about your book? What was their reaction when they foundout?

SS: It’s crazy because a follower, which is my cousin, works at TVOne, and so does my mom! So I was in my Uber on the way home and my cousin called asking “Did you write a book?” I was playing it off by saying no and things like that. But my mom ended up finding out, and she was actually very proud of me! Then my cousins are proud of me too, and they’re always telling their friends about my book.
