Celebration of Music: Hampton’s Homecoming Fashion Show

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Hampton students take their fashion seriously, especially fashion shows. Students want drama, fashion forward designs, and fierce models serving a mean pump down. This year’s show a “Celebration of Music” gave students what they were looking for.  The show consisted of five scenes and each one represented a different genre of music. The coordinators of the show were Cateatra Mallard, Lauren Johnson, Jasmine Goodwin, and Jarrid Evans. Each coordinator had their role to help create a well-rounded show. Cateatra and Lauren were the model coordinators and they managed the models by helping them achieve their fiercest walk. Jasmine and Jarrid worked long and hard to bring quality designers to Hampton. Together the coordinators were a dynamite team, they said, “We all get along, we worked together as one, it was love every step of the way.”

The first scene of the show highlighted Techno music which featured vibrant and colorful clothes. Scene two was Neo-Soul, a lot of kente cloth patterns mixed with earth tones helped complement this scene. Classical music was scene three, and this scene was full of elegant gowns and well tailored suits for the male models. What girl doesn’t love a man in a tailored suit? Rock and Roll and metal music inspired the fashion for scene four. Ripped jeans and leather were the staple pieces of the scene accompanied by a lot of black and reds. Scene five was 90’s Hip-Hop musically themed, and windbreakers, adidas pants, and acid washed jeans helped add to the 90’s vibe. Jordans and Timberland shoes mixed with thrift store finds made for an authentic 90’s scene. With the collaboration of music and clothes the audience felt and saw the music on the runway. They were able to visually interpret the music to clothes. The designers featured were student designer Stan Somniis and Gia Gladden. The coordinators wanted me to leave everyone with this message, “We would like to thank all the model and legit models don’t talk!”
