Let’s highlight this week’s Campus Cutie: Brittany Boudreaux! She is a first-year Architecture major from Houston, Texas! Brittany’s hobbies include singing, painting, writing, as well as design. She adores sunflowers both in and outside of paintings, and loves impressionist art!
HC: How would you describe your style?
BB: My style would probably be 90’s influenced with a twist of the style currently.
HC: What’s your go-to outfit for a typical day at Hampton?
BB: It would be some jeans and a t-shirt or a crop top, or shorts with a t-shirt with sneakers. I like to keep it casual.
HC: Why did you choose to attend Hampton University?
BB: I chose Hampton University because I wanted to come to an HBCU and I didn’t want to stay in the South necessarily, so when I started looking at HBCUs in the North, this one really stood out to me because it’s very prestigious and I love Virginia.
HC: What makes you stand out from the average Hampton woman?
BB: I stand out because I’m not afraid to be myself in front of anyone. I’m sure there are plenty of Hampton women who are like that, but I feel as if i can be myself in front of anyone and not be ashamed.
HC: Who inspires you to be great?
BB: My biggest inspiration would be my parents and grandparents because of the way they raised me and their morals in life. I really look at my mom and my grandma as role models because they’re so selfless and they are very helpful people and they set great examples. As far as my grandfather and my dad, I feel like they really taught me how to carry myself and what I should look for in life. They’ve taught me how to live a happy life without expecting success to necessarily be money, nice cars, or big houses. They taught me that true success is satisfaction with your life. I also look to Lauryn Hill as an inspiration because her music has helped me through so many situations in my life. I admire her because she allows herself to be so vulnerable through her music. She uses the mistakes she’s made to make her music relatable. She expresses to her listeners how to learn from her mistakes. Also, she completely admits how imperfect she is and that she is continuously trying to better herself which inspires me to do the same.
HC: Why did you choose your major?
BB: I chose it because I’ve always loved design and I love buildings and just analyzing the way that they’ve been built. My father was a contractor and a property manager and I grew up around the architectural lifestyle.
HC: What is it about impressionist art that fascinates you so much?
BB: I love the style and the technique that’s used and I love how an artist can take something that they are feeling and put it on a canvas and portray it in so many different ways.
HC: Why do you adore sunflowers in paintings and in general?
BB: I adore sunflowers because I see them as the happy flower and they represent radiance. I feel like they symbolize me and I symbolize them because I see it as the middle of a sunflower is so dark and beautiful at the same time, and then on the outside they’re so radiant and bright, and I feel like that’s how I am.
HC: Last but not least, how do you feel about our homecoming performer?
BB: I do like his music and I’m sure it will be a great concert. I guess I’m just skeptical on how good of a performer he is because he’s so new.
