Campus Cutie: Autumn Ellison

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

This week HC had the pleasure of speaking with Hampton’s Fashion guru, Autumn Ellison. We discussed why fashion means so much to her and since homecoming is this week, we talked about a few outfit options for the different events happening during the week. Autumn is a Junior Elementary Education major from Trenton, New Jersey. She has a fashion blog called So.Fvshionable, and her blog does not just cover fashion topics, but also advice journals and features.

HC: So what made you start your So.Fvshionable blog?

AE: I wanted to find an outlet when I was a senior in high school to express myself and I really like to dress and really like fashion. So I started my blog on my own with no help. It was just an outlet to express myself and give other people idea on how to dress and style for free.

HC: What makes you love fashion so much?

AE: I love fashion because it is a way to express yourself without talking. You can tell a lot about a person by what they wear. It’s just a different way to express yourself because people sometimes have a hard time expressing who they are as a person and don’t know which way to go, but with fashion they can figure out how to do that, because there are so many different types of fashion like high fashion, everyday fashion, etc.

HC: As we know homecoming is around the corner what are some clothing websites you will recommend for college students on a budget?

AE: I would recommend Forever 21 even though everyone shops there, the online has a better variety of options than the store does. I would also suggest Boohoo, I know a lot of people that shop there and they are always having 50%, 40%, and 30% on their website. Missguided is a good place to shop if you catch them on a sale. It is not always about what the store is but what you can find for the best price. You can shop on the clearance rack and find some of the best items. So at the end of the day, it is all about how you shop and not necessarily where it is from.

HC: The outfit that you have on today would you suggest wearing it to any of the events during homecoming?

AE: Yes, this could be an outfit you could wear maybe to the concert. Also, it can be worn to the Wild n Out event.

HC: Let’s talk about some fashion trends for the week, what would you suggest someone wear to the fashion show?

AE: For the fashion show most people are either going to go big or go home. I would definitely do patterns like people have been wearing the pattern ruffle pants with a nice top. Also for the fashion show, you could wear a long maxi dress. I saw on this SoSorella, [it was] a turtleneck and [it] goes all the way down to your feet but it looks very chic and stylish.

HC: What about a party outfit suggestion?

AE: A party outfit depends on the person, because some people like sexy and others may like sexy-ish but conservative. If you want to go for that sexy look I would say find something that has a dip, if it has a dip in the front you know to show off some of that front cleavage; or a dip in the back to show off some of your back to give it that pop you were looking for. Also, I would definitely say a mini skirt, a lot of people are wearing them right now. So I would suggest a mini skirt with a bodysuit would be cute to wear to a party as well. And you know if you are conservative but still want to show your curves off you can wear a tight dress that shows anything. So if you go to Forever 21 they have dresses that do not show too much, but it is all about what you look like. It shows off the curves but does not show off actual skin just gives an illusion.

HC: Do you have any bonfire outfit suggestions?

AE: To the bonfire, I would definitely keep it cute and simple because it is at nighttime. Either ripped jeans with maybe a bodysuit. Off the shoulder shirts are really in right now and I know that on Missguided they have this one off the shoulder bodysuit that everyone has been wearing and it is a long sleeve with a pattern on it. So I would definitely say keep it cute keep it simple. If you really want to do something to make your outfit pop wear heels or the booties that are really in right now.

HC: Last but not least what about for 12-2, the bazaar or the game?

For 12-2/the game, I would say camouflage. Camouflage is really in right now, the camouflage-oversized pants, camouflage skirts I think that will be really trendy for someone to wear. Camouflage pants with a black crop top would be really cute, [or] if you decide to wear the skirt you could wear an oversized off the shoulder shirt. If you do not camouflage, retro tees are black in like shirts from the 90s that have been thrifted; that has been really popular right now. Let’s say you can wear a thrifted Janet Jackson t-shirt with maybe some black jeans, and maybe some Vans. You know Vans are really in style now whether it is high-top, low top, and the checkered ones. If you are looking for an outfit to wear heels with, a denim skirt with a top is an option.  I know the clear heels and boots are still in. You could wear maybe a button down shirt to show off some skin, and a denim skirt and some clear heels for a cute outfit to wear for those who want to wear heels but still want to be comfortable.
