Campus Celebrity: Richard Pennington

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Richard Pennington is a second year Finance major from Atlanta, Georgia. His rap name is Nikko Styles. In his Q&A he tells me all about his recent success with his rap career and lets us get to know him a little bit deeper than the music! Read and enjoy! Don’t forget to check out his music .

HC: What did you do this summer?

CC: I just really traveled and cultivated my sound and network. I also took that time to set myself up for the school year. I spoke with Justin Bieber’s Team and his official DJ put one of my songs on one of his mixtapes.

HC: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

CC: I would say Beyonce, because she has the formula to success, whether it’s for music or business. I would just take in whatever she has to offer advice wise and plus she’s beautiful lol

HC: Where you do see yourself in 5 years?

CC: This is a tough question. I see myself being internationally known as an artist, and still working hard to make Nikko Styles a household name.

HC: Do you think your recent success has changed the way you view things?

CC: Most definitely! A lot of people don’t care about you at first, and then they see you making a name for yourself then they take an interest to you. Also the way people interact with me has changed, it’s either they are too eager to approach me or they don’t know how to act around me but I am still the same person.

HC: Tell me a little about yourself. What are your favorite hobbies and interests?

CC: I enjoy watching movies all the time, a lot of the samples I use in my music often comes from the movies I watch. I also enjoy spending time with family. Art is also a big passion of mine; I actually make my own artwork for my music.

HC: How would you describe your personal style?

CC: I’m really on ripped jeans right now. I wear a lot of dark colors, earthy tones, and occasional street brands. My style is very subtle; each piece of clothing separately might not be mind-blowing but when I put them all together they make a statement.

HC: Who has influenced your music the most?

CC: My city has influenced my music the most. Atlanta has so many different sounds. I incorporated where I’m from and took other regional sounds to make my own unique sound.
