John Ross is a junior, third year, five year MBA student from Richmond, Virginia. He is just like any other student at Hampton University, but his extracurricular activities is what sets him apart from his peers. In Ross’ spare time he likes to play and listen to music and play a good game of tennis. Ross loves his “Home By The Sea”. He shares “I like Hampton because of its rich history and because it’s a community of students that are like family.”
Other than studying, hanging out with friends, and going to parties, Ross is the drum major for “Hampton University’s Marching Force.” “I like being a leader and a role model for young bandsmen.” Music is a stress release for him and gives him the opportunity to do what he loves and also be a calm environment. “As the drum major of HU, it consists of being the liaison between the band director and bandsmen. A lot of preparation to get the band to its full potential and making sure students follow rules and regulation.
Ross’s job as the drum major can get demanding but despite his responsibilities he continues to remain the leader of “the force.” “My experience as drum major has been challenging, yet rewarding. It has been a great learning experience.”
