Ain’t This What They’ve Been Waitin’ For: Meek Mill and Drake Squash Beef

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

After years of tension, two of America’s favorite rappers decided to leave the past in the past.

Everyone in the hip-hop world knows about the beef between Drake and Meek Mill, and if you don’t, it all started in 2015 when rapper Meek Mill claimed that Drake had ghostwriters. Drake then came back with a couple of diss tracks, including the huge hit “Back to Back.”

Since then, Meek was sent back to prison and has since been released. After being released, Meek Mill publicly stated his beef with Drake was over in May because of Drake’s support.

Drake is currently on tour with the hip-hop trio, Migos. Meek Mill decided to join Drake on stage during his show at Boston’s TD Garden last Saturday evening. Meek performed his 2012 hit “Dreams and Nightmares” and the two shook hands in front of thousands of fans, officially squashing their ongoing beef. Drake posted a photo on Instagram of the two onstage with the caption, “This really gave me peace of mind tonight. Healing and moving forward created one of the most electric and gratifying moments of my career. @meekmill I’m happy that you are home and that we could find our way back to our joint purpose (Cue the Kevin Garnett “anything is possible” adlib).”

Meek also took time to talk about the moment on his Instagram saying, “WE BOTH HAPPY AS S***!” After the show, reporters captured the two rappers playing ping-pong together. Hip-hop beef goes all the way back with Tupac and Biggie to Cardi B. and Nicki Minaj today. Meek and Drake were mature enough to not let the industry and the rest of the world keep fueling fire between them. Which of your favorite celebrities do you think will do the same as Meek and Drake?
