5 Reasons Why Being Single This Valentine’s Day Isn’t So Bad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Valentine’s Day is the day of love and happiness. On this special day, people who are madly in love around the world spend money on fly outfits, expensive restaurants, and even drop racks on jewelry. But what about the people who end up single on this special occasion? What do they do? No need to sweat it, Valentines Day when you’re single can be lit if you let it be. Here are some reasons why this Valentines Day being single isn’t so bad.

  1. Finding Yourself- Being single gives you the chance you to focus on yourself and not on the other person if in a relationship. The time to do things that you’ve always wanted to do, like up and travel to Cali, paint your apartment multiple colors or try new foods, can give you a sense of self revelation that you might not be able to find while in a relationship.

  2. You Control Your Happiness- Not saying that being in a relationship makes you unhappy, but some tend to measure their happiness solely on having a relationship. The only person who should be responsible of your mood and happiness should always be you whether in a relationship or not.

  3. Saving Money – Ok, this one is the best reason as to why being single on this day is lowkey lit. Not having a bae to spend money on, helps you save some cash. All the money saved from not having to plan a romantic evening and buying gifts can be spent on you. So treat yourself and get those new sneakers or that new purse that you’ve been wanting. Let’s not forget that Valentine’s Day sales are always good and on point.

  4. You Are Not Alone!- You may not have a bae this time around for this special day, but you can make the most out of it by celebrating with friends and family. Getting together with your girls and planning a night out is probably what you didn’t know you needed. Being around family and friends can give you the sensation of feeling loved. So make those plans and be happy.

  5. YKWTFGO !! – Most likely you already know that being single when this day comes up isn’t that serious. You may meet someone this year and by the time Valentines Day comes around again, you’ll be posting pics of you and bae on IG or Twitter. Being single is doing everything you’ll be doing with a partner, by yourself or with friends and family.  At the end of the day, you’ll be aight. So make some plans with your friends, find a cute outfit and go out and have some fun. You popping regardless!
