The Gamma Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, inc hosted a flag football tournament Saturday October 23, 2015. The tournament served as a way to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

With the aim of “Tackling Breast Cancer Together” students were able to team up with friends for a fun game of flag football on Bemis Lawn. Organizations such as the Student Leadership program, and the Student Recruitment team, battled it out to prove who was really the BEST organization on campus. Cherise McAdoo, a sophomore marketing major from Detroit, Michigan said “I enjoyed playing for the Student Recruitment Team because I feel it brought us closer as a family.” She also goes on to say “I also played in honor of my mother.”

Before the Tournament students gathered at the Booker T. Washington monument where they received pink bandanas, and listened to an empowering speech from a breast cancer survivor. Students then walked from the monument to the field in remembrance of those who lost their lives to breast cancer.

The event was a great turn out and a percentage of the proceeds were donated to breast cancer research.
