10 Rap and R&B Christmas Songs That You Should Add To Your Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Are you ready for this holiday season?! You can’t be without these songs! They will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit. (And a little lit too!) All of the following songs are on Youtube and Apple Music.

1.  “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” by DMX

Now I know what you’re thinking, DMX on Christmas? Yesssss! This song was originally a playful thing during a Breakfast Club Interview in 2012, but he decided to make it an actual remix in 2017. The song is just looped to extend it, but it is quite catchy.

2. “Let it Snow” by Boyz II Men feat. Brian McKnight

This is a very well-known Christmas song but deserves to be brought back to the forefront. What a great song for the holidays when you’re with bae or even just wanting to jam to some R&B. This song also has a version without Brian McKnight, but both versions are good to listen to.

3. “St. Brick (Intro)” by Gucci Mane

When I first saw this song, I was actually nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. Who would’ve thought that Gucci Mane would release a Christmas song? It’s not surprising that its lit, it’s just good to know that it exists. The music video really adds to the song as well.

4. “HO! HO!” by Ying Yang Twins

The Ying Yang Twins are known for their party songs and outrageous lyrics. However, this Christmas song really makes you wanna get up and dance. Hopefully the dancing you decide to do is appropriate for the family Christmas party…

5. “The Christmas Song” by PJ Morton

PJ Morton is the son of world renowned gospel artist Bishop Paul Morton. But PJ made his own path to success by releasing a number of R&B tunes and a catchy single with singer Jojo called “Say So.” He also recently released a new Christmas album which includes this song and 7 others. There’s a song for whatever mood you might be feeling whether you’re looking for chill vibes or upbeat tones.

6. “Love You More at Christmas Time” by Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland recently released a new Christmas song that’s very upbeat & cutesy. The song was featured in a new Lifetime movie that she starred in and produced called Merry Liddle Christmas. It will definitely put you in the Christmas mood with its affectionate lyrics and her melodic voice.

7. “This Christmas” by Chris Brown

We all know and love this song from the popular Christmas movie by the same name: This Christmas. The original version of this song is by Donny Hathaway and was released in 1970.

8. “8 Days of Christmas” by Destiny’s Child

We all know the power of DC’s voice in their prime. The trio girl group released a Christmas album in 2001 that’s named after this song, “8 Days of Christmas,” which is a more upbeat spin on the song “12 Days of Christmas.”

9. “Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto” by Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg

Another Christmas rap song that will have you in a good mood this holiday season is by the one and only – Snoop Dogg. This song comes off of his Christmas on Death Row album released in 1996. There’s also an older version of this song by James Brown. And if neither of those suits you, try listening to the Fantasia or Anthony Hamilton remakes.

10. “I Want to Come Home for Christmas” by Ne-Yo

I discovered this heartfelt song in the 2013 sequel film, Best Man Holiday. However, recently Ne-Yo came out with a new Christmas album that includes this song as well. The album entitled Another Kind of Christmas has features from artists like Candice Boyd and RaVaughn. If you’re on the hunt for more songs, it has ten other Christmas tracks that you can enjoy.
