The Best Places To Eat Near Hamline

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamline chapter.

At this point in the semester, most people are getting pretty sick of the food at Anderson. Here are some options for you if you’re looking to take a break from the Bishop’s Bistro, Starbucks and Subway.

Chianti Grill:

If you like Italian food, you’ll love Chianti Grill. Located just down Snelling, it’s a short bus ride from Hamline. They offer a lot of options, including vegetarian pastas and appetizers. I had the alfredo with vegetables and it was amazing! Not to mention, their tiramisu is delicious. Chianti Grill is a little bit on the expensive side, but if you’re looking to treat yourself, this is the right place for you.

Black Sea:

If you go to Hamline, you’ve most likely heard about the Black Sea. It’s a tiny Turkish place just across the street from Anderson, and they have a lot of delicious stuff. From gyros to falafels to kebabs, Black Sea has many options for everyone’s taste. They also cater to vegetarians and have a lot of vegetable based options. They even have deserts such as Turkish rice pudding and baklava!

Checkerboard Pizza:

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat that is just a short walk from Hamline, Checkerboard Pizza is the perfect place for you. It’s just down the street and it is delicious. They offer pizza, pasta, wings and subs, but what I like the most is their homemade mini donuts. You get seven for only $4, and they’re warm and delicious.

Revival:

Revival has locations in both Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and the one in Saint Paul is only around 15 minutes away. Located on Selby Avenue, they serve both lunch and dinner. This option is probably the least vegetarian friendly, but they do offer sides that everyone can enjoy such as mac and cheese and candied yams. If you’re in the mood for barbecue, Revival is the place for you.

The French Hen Cafe:

The French Hen is an adorable little cafe located about 15 minutes from Hamline, also on Selby Avenue. They offer a lot of breakfast, lunch and a la carte foods, and their coconut lime french toast is incredible. They are “French and Creole inspired,” and their prices aren’t terrible, but they are a little bit pricey for a college student budget so make sure to plan ahead!

Now you have a list of places to go when Anderson, subway or Starbucks just doesn’t sound good anymore.
