An Attainable Summer Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hamline chapter.

If you’re like me, you’re constantly dreaming about what you could do if you only had the time, money, freedom, etc. Especially since summer is coming soon, it can be easy to get caught up in an endless bucket list that you’ll never finish. Instead of doing that, here are some bucket list ideas that you can definitely cross off this summer.

Go to a beach

This could be any beach, whether it’s in Florida, a different country or a nearby lake (plenty of lake beaches in Twin Cities area!). The shore of a local river even counts as a beach. All you need is a towel or chair, a good book and some sun. Hanging out by the water can cost nothing as well, which is a huge plus.

Spend Some Time With Animals

Your long-term bucket list might include getting a puppy or another pet of your own, but that might not be possible any time soon. Fill that urge by spending time with animals this summer. You could hang out with your current pets, a friend’s pets or head to your local zoo. Many animal shelters need volunteers to help walk dogs or spend time with cats.

Try A New Restaurant

It can be easy to hit up all of your favorite restaurants and ice cream spots this summer, but push yourself to try something new. It could be a new location that just opened or a restaurant that serves cuisine you’ve never tried. Take some friends with you so that you can all experience it together.

Go to Pride or the State Fair

If you haven’t been or heard of them, the Twin Cities Pride Festival and the Minnesota State Fair are probably the biggest events in the state. Both have awesome food and entertainment, and Pride has a spectacular parade that many local businesses partake in to show their support (even Hamline is in it!). Pride is free to attend and most booths will hand out free stuff, whereas the State Fair has an entrance fee.

Go on a Short Road Trip

Traveling the world might not happen this summer, especially if you’re swimming in debt and can’t afford to take a week off work. But if you’re able, a road trip can be just as fun. Gather some friends and explore new places nearby. It’s up to you how far you want to go or how long you want the trip to be, but if you’re looking to save money, try for a shorter trip, and avoid the most expensive hotels. The trip doesn’t have to be overnight either; It could be a day trip to a nature park or small town.

Get a Tattoo, a piercing, or Change Your Hair

If you have the money, getting a tattoo or piercing can be a great way to feel like you’ve done something new. You could also dye your hair a fun color or cut it super short. Sometimes a bucket list just means a change in our life, and you can start by making these small changes to your appearance. This doesn’t work for everyone, so only partake if you think it will help.

If you need more ideas, it’s easy to come up with more on your own. Simply look around you and where you live, and ask yourself, “What have I not done?” There’s a lot more out there to do than you think. Good luck checking off your list!
