Your Spring DC Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GWU chapter.

It seems like just yesterday we were starting the new school year, but now summer is just a couple weeks away! If you’re going home or venturing to a new city for a job or internship this summer, don’t forget to soak up everything DC has to offer in the springtime before you leave. Especially now, when the weather is nice and when finals still seem way off in the distance, take advantage of these springtime DC staples:

Passport DC

Want to travel around the world without even leaving the city? Passport DC is your ticket to over 25 embassies located right in DC! May 4th is the Around the World Embassy Tour, where you can visit all types of embassies (complementary shuttle service is provided!) and experience the food, fashion, and overall culture of different countries. May 11th is the Shortcut to Europe, similar to the previous embassy tour but focusing specifically on European Union countries. For a list of all the Passport DC events going on in the month of May, visit their website.

Yoga on the Mall

DC is known for being one of the most active cities in the country, especially for yogis, so be sure to take part in this om-mazing event! On Sunday, May 5th, thousands of experienced yogis and first time yoga participants will gather together for a yoga session on the Ellipse, the area between the White House and the Washington Monument. Bring a yoga mat, water, snacks, a towel, and your friends! Click here for more information.

Cinco de Mayo Festival

With the slogan “On Cinco de Mayo, Everybody’s Latino!” the Cinco de Mayo festival on the National Mall will feature all sorts of Latin American dance, crafts, music, and food, as well as a Mexican market. The event takes place from noon to 6 pm. Visit their website for more information.

ZooFari

Sticking around for commencement or have animal-loving family coming into town? Be sure to mention ZooFari, a charity event taking place at the National Zoo on May 16th. More than 100 of DC’s best restaurants will be showcasing their food, and silent auctions and sweepstakes will benefit charity. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance at the event’s website.

Congratulations on making it through the year, Colonials, and good luck on your final exams!
