What Your Favorite Genre of Books Says About You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GWU chapter.

Cheesy romances, heartfelt classics, bone-chilling mysteries, and stories about places far, far, away……. where do you fall in the middle of it?

Romance<3

For many, including myself, romance is a pure guilty pleasure. You’re a passionate, warmhearted, and exciting person, who’s always looking for the good in everything, even when things can feel the lowest. You look for love wherever you can find it, but often the best place to find love is to not be looking for it at all. You also can have pretty high expectations, which can have positive and negative consequences. But let’s face it, book boys are always (always) better.

the classics

“A classic is a book that has never finished what it has to say” (Italo Calvino). No statement has been truer, as over the years, even hundreds, their pages have been flipped and enjoyed. If you love classics, you’re an old soul, and you actually enjoyed many of the required readings in school (as did I). You love getting to know people and forming lasting relationships. You also have quite the eloquent vocabulary. If it were up to me, I’d curl up with a Jane Austen novel any day of the week (Pride and Prejudice for the win!)

mystery

These are the type of books that you can never put down – flash forward it’s three in the morning and you swore that you would stop at the “next chapter”. You consider yourself quite the detective in your own right, often looking deeper into situations than others and being able to put clues together. You are naturally perceptive and definitely the person who figures out the ending of movies. Have you read Gone Girl?

Fantasy

Once a fanatsy fan, always a fantasy fan. You’ve had a taste for adventure for as long as you can remember, and let me tell you, it’s not going away;) You have quite the imagination sprouting from your Percy Jackson and Harry Potter glory days and that has led you to be quite the daydreamer. You always want what’s best for the people you love, often inspiring them to follow their own fantasies. You value the good things, and a good story that keeps you dreaming.
