Spring Fling 2011: Mike Posner and Chiddy Bang
Tomorrow, April 16, is Spring Fling (finally). It starts at 4 pm in University Yard, and goes until 10 pm! That’s six hours of free food, a 28-foot rock-climbing wall and a blow up gladiator joust. However, we all know that everyone is more than excited for the bomb performers who will be making an appearance on GW’s campus—Mike Posner & Chiddy Bang (for free). Read a little about the performers below and go to their sites to get to know some of their songs before Spring Fling!
Mike Posner launched his career at Duke University, where he juggled undergrad and his passion for music. His hit mix tape “A Matter of Time” was produced in his own dorm room—who would’ve thought that a dorm-produced tape would make the charts? He graduated in 2010 with a major in business in sociology and a GPA of 3.5. His goal when producing was to create songs that would appeal to a college crowd, and he takes pride on the fact that he had no help. Posner was offered a label right out of college… something that doesn’t happen very often:
“I’m doing something nobody else can do or has done yet, and I’m blessed to be signed to a label and be finishing school,” he says, his hushed voice tinged with a sense of wonder and a preternatural honesty. “A lot of people in my position would think I’ve worked within this box, and I have to recreate what I’ve already done. But I’m already so much better than I was when I made my mix tape.” He promises: “The album (31 minutes to Takeoff) is going to be nuts.”
Some of Posner’s hits include “Cooler Than Me”, “Please Don’t Go” and “Bow Chicka Wow Wow”. Be sure to check out his remixes of other songs including Beyonce’s “Halo” and The Fray’s “Over My Head” (Still Not Over You).

Chiddy Bang is a Philly based duo comprised of Chiddy (emcee) and Xaphoon Jones (DJ/Producer) who combine indie rock and electronica with rap. Chiddy grew up in Newark, NJ. His interest in music began as a mere recess activity. After high school, Chiddy attended Drexel University where he met Xaphoon Jones. Xaphoon spent a lot of his time as a kid running errands in legendary Philly studios, where he’d pick up tips from local jazz artists and snuck sessions afterwards. He played many different instruments but, according to Chiddy, “really made magic over the music software Logic and Reason”. The two musicians got to work making the mix tape Swelly Express. They used samples from MGMT, Passion Pit and even Mary Poppins, to name a few. They take these songs and turn them into something completely different.
For some of Chiddy Bang’s early songs, search “Swelly Express” on YouTube. Check out Chiddy Bang’s latest hits on the album “The Preview” including “Opposite of Adults”, “All Things Go” and “The Good Life”.
