Quaran-tunes: A Quarantine Playlist for All of Your Moods

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GWU chapter.

Closing in on my fourth week of quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m finally able to embrace the surges of anxious energy I feel each time more updates pour into my newsfeed.

This moment in the world is not only unprecedented from a health perspective, an economic perspective, and a social perspective, but it is completely unprecedented in terms of mental health. For those who are finding it difficult to cope with the heavy atmosphere in the news media or on social media, I completely understand. This is not an easy time nor is it one in which lights at the end of the tunnel are easily visible.

While this is the case, I’ve definitely found relief through reading, watching movies and television, and, of course, through music. Kacey Musgraves put it best: “I’m happy and sad at the same time.” I’ve tried to remember to allow myself to embrace however I feel each day and found comfort in listening to music that compliments that emotional state: my taste has been a little bit all over the place.

I hope you can find a song you love from this collection, whether you want to dance around your bedroom or hide in a blanket fort. Either option, and everything in between, is the perfect response.

Here are some songs I’ve been loving throughout this time.

  1. Happy & Sad by Kacey Musgraves

  2. Motion Sickness by Phoebe Bridgers

  3. Love You For A Long Time by Maggie Rogers

  4. Panic by The Smiths

  5. Softly by Clairo

  6. Curious by FHAT

  7. 26 by Paramore

  8. It Was A Good Day by Ice Cube
