As midterms round up and the weather begins to change, I’m sure the idea of spring break is no longer a distant daydream and now an eagerly awaited reality. While some may be packing their swimsuits for an exciting tropical vacation or loading up their car for an eventful road trip, others may be dreading a boring long week at home. Whether you are staying home by choice or by circumstance, your spring break doesn’t have to be dull. It doesn’t always have to be about travels, it could also be the perfect opportunity to unwind, destress and get ready for the next half of the semester. Here are some fun ways to brighten up your spring break.
Prioritize Self Care
College is a very stressful period in our lives with deadlines constantly looming over us and the anxiety induced by a test or an exam constantly on our minds. Students are always in a hurry or worried, often neglecting themselves and their needs in the pursuit of a higher education. We often forget that we cannot come back stronger for the next half of the semester if we are burnt out. We need to invest in ourselves as much as we invest in our academics which means intentionally taking care of ourselves. This could look like: taking an hour (or more) long nap, engaging in a detailed skin care regimen, or practicing mindfulness techniques through journalling or meditation. Always remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup and spring break is the best time to fill up your cup!
Pick Up a Hobby
The semester is constantly packed with homework, or projects, or on campus activities leaving little time for personal interests. Spring break offers us the chance to slow down and discover a new hobby or return to an old one. This could be as simple as taking a hike, gardening, and baking or it could be more niche like drawing, writing poetry, or learning calligraphy. Undertaking a hobby is a great way to unplug from the outside world and reconnect with yourself.
Invest in Yourself
Spring break is a great time to relax but all that free time is the perfect opportunity to invest in yourself. With the busy semester, I’m sure that some New Year’s Resolutions have been left in the same state as they were written. This break would be a good time to revisit those goals, make some progress or even create new ones. Investing in yourself could look like learning a new skill, taking an online course, or engaging in a wellness routine (such as Pilates or strength training). Dedicating time to your personal growth by taking intentional steps leads to amazing accomplishments and this break is definitely the time to do it! Remember: all progress is good progress.
Spring Break is the best time to recharge from the stressful semester and prepare for the next half ahead. From skincare regimens to online courses, these are wonderful opportunities to work on ourselves in order to be the best versions of us that we can be.
