Every few months the beauty world is shaken up by a new product that seems to revolutionize how we view, use, and apply makeup. Last year, beauty fanatics everywhere both applauded and adored the Naked Palette by Urban Decay—a neutral eye had never been so pretty and so easy!

The most recent beauty chatter has been surrounding the Beautyblender, invented by premier Hollywood makeup artist Rea Ann Silva. The Beautyblender, sold exclusively at Sephora.com for $19.95, is an elliptical-shaped, hot pink sponge that is used to apply anything from a liquid foundation to a cream blush. This non-latex and hypoallergenic sponge provides a flawless finish that has caused makeup addicts to second-guess using traditional, synthetic foundation brushes.

Blending is seamlessly perfected with the Beautyblender’s rounded edges and suede texture. The pointed tip of the sponge allows you to apply product on those hard-to-reach contours of the face, including the area around the nose and eyes. The Beautyblender should first be dampened with water, dabbed with makeup, and then stippled across the surface of the skin. Stippling is designed to spread out product onto your face in micronized dots (much like a professional airbrush machine), through rapid tapping motions against the skin. When it comes to cleaning the Beautyblender, treat it as any other makeup applicator—wash it once a week with a gentle cleanser (such as baby shampoo) to prevent the formation of bacteria.
