Hello lovelies, and welcome to my blog! I have had a blog before but not one that is this personal, so I hope you guys enjoy reading the stories and advice that I have for you. The reason why I am writing this intro is so that I can build a relationship with you all. I love to write, especially when it is informal and very casual. I am also very open to suggestions about what you would like to read from me!

For starters, my name is Alejandra Puente and I am from Dallas, Texas. My parents are both from Mexico. My dad is from Guanajuato and my mom is from San Luis Potosi. They are both from very different parts of the country, and I am a very proud daughter of Mexican parents. I identify myself as a Hispanic woman, and I will never be embarrassed about that. I also have two sisters and am the oldest of three, all of whom are my best friends. My parents always taught us to work hard for what you want and that there will always be a way to accomplish anything that you put your mind to. They are the reason why I have a strong work ethic and have been following my dreams.

I am a very proud daughter of Mexican parents.

Growing up in Dallas was very comforting. I say that because I was always around people that looked like me. I went to a predominantly Hispanic high school. The Spanish language and the traditions I had grown up with inside the four walls of my home were the same ones my classmates had. I also grew up playing soccer ever since I could walk. I fell in love with the sport and never stopped playing it once I got put on a team. Aside from club, I played throughout high school on the varsity team. The sport taught me respect and how to always keep pushing myself. I also watched a lot of sports, and have challenged myself each season to learn something new about that sport. To say the least, that has been going pretty well. During the pandemic, I also picked up on cooking and baking. I love my sugar cookies, especially when they are made from scratch! Cooking, on the other hand, I am still practicing, but my mom has been a great teacher with a lot of patience. It has been a trial and error thing, but that is how we all learn!

I am currently a junior at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. I love it here and am blessed to have this opportunity. I don’t play soccer anymore, but I do go to the gym daily, if possible. I am majoring in journalism and mass communication. My dream initially coming in freshman year was to be a sports reporter for the Dallas Cowboys. My intention was to help increase the presence of women in the sports world, specifically women of color. That is still my dream and my intention, but with some minor changes. With everything going on in society, my ultimate goal is to create a voice for my community. People of color are highly underrepresented and we deserve a seat at the table too. I want to be a reporter, but I would like to do either sports or news. I believe both worlds of journalism need a higher presence of people of color, specifically women of color too. Whichever opportunity I have, I am going to be content and excited. I honestly could not tell you all which one I would want most, but I would be giving it all I have.

I know this intro might have been a bit lengthy, but I wanted to be as transparent as possible with you all. In all my classes objectivity and transparency have always been key themes, and I believe that even if this is casual and informal writing, I should practice it. This is just a bit about me and my background, but as I write I promise, my personality will slowly come out as well as some other things about me! Thank you lovelies, have a wonderful day, and don’t forget to love yourself!

Alejandra is a current junior at the George Washington University studying journalism and mass communication. She is originally from Dallas, Texas but her roots are from Mexico. She hopes to one day break into the world of sports and become a sideline reporter and broadcaster for the NFL!
