Cupcakes have been one of the biggest food crazes over the past few years. There are four major cupcake bakeries in DC. Three of them are in Georgetown and one is in Downtown DC. First is Georgetown Cupcake, which opened in 2008 on the corner of M street and Potomac street. Two sisters opened Georgetown Cupcake and now it has become one of the most popular places to go when visiting DC. Not only is Georgetown Cupcake a yummy treat but the bakery now has its own television show called DC Cupcakes. Second, is Baked & Wired. It is tucked away on Thomas Jefferson Street and is definitely worth the trip. Baked & Wired has turned the traditional coffee into a coffee house that has a young vibrant atmosphere. The cupcakes are simply scrumptious. Third is Crumbs Bake Shop which opened a few months ago and is located in Downtown DC on 11th and F Street. Crumbs is known for their colossal cupcakes and they are extra delicious! It’s the perfect cupcake to give to someone on their birthday since they are easily as big as a small cake. Lastly, Sprinkles Cupcakes is a cupcakery that was started in Beverly Hills and is making its way to various parts of the country. The owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes is a judge on the show called Cupcake Wars. I was so excited to hear they were opening a store in DC. Sprinkles Cupcakes has an excellent reputation and even celebrities fuss over the cupcakes all the time. My friends and I actually stood on line opening day waiting to try their tasty treats and trust me it was worth the wait. I have personally tried all four cupcakeries and there is definitely going to be a cupcake battle here in DC since each are delicious in their own way! Which one do you think will win?
