Every year when Halloween comes around, the grocery stores get stocked with loads of new candies. Sometimes it can be overwhelming when choosing the right candy to suit our trick-or-treaters (but let’s be serious, most of it’s for you). We ate a bunch of different Halloween candies and then gave them comments and an overall rating out of 10. Here’s our list of in depth Halloween candy reviews.
Pumpkin-Shaped Peppermint Patties
Jenn: I’m personally not a mint and chocolate fan. This felt like I was eating chocolate covered toothpaste. 3
Claire: Its good. It’s just a Peppermint Patty. 9
Rachel: It doesn’t look like a pumpkin. It tastes like it normally does. It’s good. I like these. It’s very refreshing. 8
Kate: I love Yorks so much. It’s a good balance. I like that it’s not pumpkin spiced flavor. 9
Megan: It tastes like Christmas in a pumpkin shape. It lied to me. It tastes like toothpaste in dark chocolate. 4
Elizabeth: You know the “hiss” when you break a Peppermint Patty? Well, it does that so I’m satisfied. I definitely taste the dark chocolate. They’re just impossible to beat. The mint is so good. It’s almost not a candy because candy is really sugary, but the mint and the dark chocolate is refreshing. 6
Olivia: This is awful. 4
Sophie: I like chocolate and mint so it’s a ten. 10
Corinne: These are my favorite. This is probably the best candy there is for Halloween. 10
Hershey’s Candy Corn Bar
Jenn: The smell kind of threw me off because it smelled like a birthday cake candle. When I tried it I got serious candy corn vibes. If you’re a candy corn fan, you’d really like this candy bar. 4.5
Cassie: It smells like birthday cake flavoring. I love candy corn on the inside. I really like it. 7
Claire: It’s not awful, but it’s not good. 4
Rose: When I eat Hershey’s, I’m looking for chocolate. This doesn’t have this. If I had to choose, I’d want a Hershey’s bar or candy corn and this is neither. 5
Megan: Wow. It smells really sweet. It tastes like a bad version of the cream inside of an Oreo and waxy candy corn with white chocolate. 3.5
Elizabeth: It’s pretty good. It does taste like candy corn. I’m more of a chocolate girl and white chocolate is not chocolate. 4
Sophie: I don’t really like white chocolate, but I really like candy corn so I have mixed feelings. 5
Olivia L.: I hate candy corn and white chocolate so my first bite I was like ew, this is a one, then I had another bite and gave it a four and then I thought it was a six. I had really low expectations, but turned out to exceed those expectations. 7
Corinne: It smells like Bath and Body Works warms sugar vanilla lotion and tastes like cotton candy vape.
Orange Kit Kats
Jenn: It looks like a toy. My brain is telling that I shouldn’t ingest it. It is very artificially orange. I thought I’d be a fan of the white chocolate. I think it’s the coloring…It feel like I’m eating an expired knock off brand Kit Kat. 2
Kate: It loses the Kit Kate flavor. 4
Rose: They’re really orange. I can appreciate the color. They are ORANGE. It tastes kind of different than a regular Kit Kat. I’m not disappointed, it’s just different. 6
Megan: I can appreciate the bright orange color, but I’m not a huge fan of white chocolate and I’m incredibly biased to the original Kit Kat. It’s good for Halloween. 7
Elizabeth: It’s really good, but I like regular Kit Kats better. 6
Sarah: Regular ones are a lot better, but I don’t know, I can’t taste a lot of anything going on. The color is unappetizing. 2
Sophie: It’s so fun! They’re orange. These are 10/10 because they’re Kit Kats. I like the color. 10
Corinne: The color is unappealing. It looks like a fake carrot. It was overall really bland. I didn’t even get a hint of white chocolate. There was more wafer than chocolate which is not why I’d eat a Kit Kat. I’m highly disappointed because original Kit Kats a scrumptious. 1
Reese’s with Reese’s Pieces Inside
Jenn: I had very high expectations for this, but I don’t think they were met. It felt like I was eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup, my favorite candy, but it felt like I was eating eggs shells with it. 6
Kate: I like it! It gives a little crunch to it. It’s the right amount of crunch. It still tastes like Reese’s pieces. 9
Rose: It tasted good. I liked the crunchiness. 7
Megan: I don’t usually eat Reese’s cups. This was pretty good. It came off the paper nicely. I like the little M&M coating. 8
Elizabeth: It’s really good. Regular Reese’s are my favorite candy. I like the extra, but I don’t need it. 10
Sarah: I’m not a huge Reese’s person. I like Reese’s pieces, but like the miniature ones because there is less peanut butter. The regulars are too sticky. 6
Olivia: It doesn’t have as many Reese’s pieces as you’d think. I didn’t like the Reese’s pieces. 7
Corinne: I didn’t mind it, but I would prefer a regular Reese’s. The pieces sort of intercepted the peanut butter flavor. It reduced the opportunity for there to be more peanut butter per square centimeter. However, this is a good idea and it’s an unconventional Halloween candy so props to that. 7
Pumpkin Reese’s
Jenn: All I can say is that I enjoyed it. 8
Emma: Spooky. 10
Claire: Yep. That’s a Reese’s bar. It’s got a lot of peanut butter in it. 7
Rachel: This one actually looks like a pumpkin. This is better than the original. There’s more peanut butter. 10
Emma: Definitely a ten; you cannot top this (I would give it a 12). 12
Rose: Reese’s pumpkins and Reese’s Christmas trees have more peanut butter. They’re like the Girl Scout cookies, Tagalongs. 10
Megan: This is really weird peanut butter, but I think it’s growing on me. It’s like grainy peanut butter. Despite the grainy peanut butter I do like it. 9
Elizabeth: Oh my God. I think that this goes for both the Christmas, eggs and pumpkin, but they’re better because they have that nice rounded shape. There’s more peanut butter. 12/10
Corinne: This is the single greatest Halloween candy that I’ve every consumed other than the Peppermint Patties which are pretty hard to beat. There’s so much peanut butter. It was transcendental. 9.5
Pumpkin Pie M&Ms
Jenn: I was most nervous about trying this one. I was not expecting whatever I tasted. I don’t know. I don’t have words to describe what I just experienced. 1
Emma: I hated those. They were disgusting. You could use that as torture on someone. -1
Cassie: I’m in love. These remind me of my mom’s pumpkin bars from home. My mom made some this morning and I didn’t get in any, but this was almost them. 10
Claire: It’s actually kind of good. It actually tastes like pumpkin pie. It’s got a really good flavor. It tastes like fall. 9
Rachel: It tastes like I’m eating a candle. Its not good. 2
Rose: I really don’t like pumpkin flavored things, but it wasn’t the worse thing I’ve ever eaten. It wasn’t gross. 4
Megan: I’m tasting white chocolate. There’s a slight pumpkin taste. I’m tasting some ginger and maybe cardamom. 6
Elizabeth: It’s just too spicy. It has too much nutmeg. 4
Sarah: They really could’ve hit the ball on this one, but they missed it. 3
Olivia: That was awful. 0
Corinne: I’m not a fan. It tastes like old pumpkin pie that has been microwaved a few too many times. They’re bigger than normal M&Ms so there is a lot of coating that makes it unpleasantly crunchy. 2
Candy Corn
Claire: Candy corn can die. 1
Rachel: It’s such a classic. No one really knows exactly what it tastes like, but it’s good. It reminds her of my grandma’s house. 8
Emma: I like chocolate over candy like this. It tastes like plastic. 4
Kate: I’m one of those people where, I’m kind of with Emma on this, I’m more of chocolate person. I love eating candy corn with peanuts or like in GORP. I personally wouldn’t eat it on its own. 7
Rose: I think it was great. I love candy corn. It’s a classic, so I can’t complain. It’s addicting so get it out of here. 8.5
Kayla: It’s very sweet, but if I had some peanuts with it, that’d be good. 6
Elizabeth: I literally spit mine out. It’s just like someone took brown sugar and wanted to pour orange goo on top. There was a time when I could shovel this in my mouth, but nope, not anymore. 0
Olivia: I’ll be nice and I’ll give it a one. 1
Sophie.: 10/10. I love candy corn.Corinne: I didn’t taste test this, but I just know it’s awesome. Better uses for candy corn include: ear plugs, miniature traffic cones, nose plugs, party hats for mice.
