Meet Gustavus Junior, Katie Aney!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gustavus chapter.

Katie Aney is one of the most influential women I have ever met. She amazes me every day with her academics skills, her friendliness and her wicked tennis game. If you have not had a conversation with Katie, I highly recommend doing so, she is incredible. Read on to get to know a little more about her!

Hometown: Rochester, MN

Major: Biochemisty, biology, math. (Yes, being triple major at Gustavus is totally possible, along with playing tennis, too!)

Why Gustavus?

“I don’t have any freaking clue.”

If you were to plan the meals for a day in the caf, what would choose?

“Well I believe that ice cream is extremely important and it is a little difficult to fill up on gluten free foods… For breakfast, were going to go with the obvious, ice cream and some iced coffee to start out the day. After a few classes, I always crave some Chocolate Chex and of course more ice cream. After practice, I love a good rotisserie chicken and ice cream to end the night right.”

Favorite genre of music?

“Anything with Ed Sheeran, no idea what that genre is, frickin bomb that is what it is.”

Describe yourself in three words.

“I would say, quirky, compassionate, and enthusiastic.”

What are your plans for the summer?

“I am going to Harvard University in Boston to be a Harvard Amgen Scholar. I get to preform research alongside a faculty member and halfway through the summer I get to go to California to present the research I work on all summer. I am super jacked and it will be the best summer ever. I always tear up about this opportunity because I am very excited and lucky.”

What is something your passionate about that gets you excited when you talk about it?

“I can talk about science all day. It started when I did really badly on an exam freshman year and then I began to study harder for my next tests. When I realized how similar our genomes are as potatoes and fish, I was blown away. I fell in love ever since and I am obsessed. Please come talk to me about science, it is my passion and I love expressing it!”

Last question, what is your spirit animal?

 “Prairie dog!”
