Fresh Spring Beauty Trends: And How You Can Rock Them

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gustavus chapter.

Hello, lovelies!

Sometimes spring runway makeup trends can be a little dramatic for everyday wear, so I’m here to help you incorporate them into fun, wearable looks for this spring. Along with dewy and bronzed skin, a bold trend on the runway is choosing one feature to make a statement and wearing the rest of the face fairly natural. Popular choices seem to be blue eyeshadows or bright lips.

In these looks, I’m wearing bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream ($29.50) to achieve that natural look with a dewy finish. Another great option for a cheaper foundation is L’Oréal True Match Lumi Foundation ($12.99). As the name implies, it is a luminous foundation with medium to full coverage. For bronzer, I used Benefit Hoola matte bronzer ($29) to shade my cheekbones and temples, but I avoided a sharp contour. For those of you who prefer a shimmery bronze, a great option is Milani Baked Bronzer ($8.25). The highlighter I’m using is E.L.F. Baked Blush ($3) for a glow with a fresh pink undertone. One of the best highlighters on the market is Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Champagne Pop ($38) for an intense highlight that is perfect for all skin tones.

In this look, I chose to emphasize my eyes with some intense blue eyeshadows. I used the shades Gonzo, Fringe, and Chaos from the Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette ($49), which has ten incredibly velvety and blendable shades perfect for spring and summer. A cheaper option would be to find some individual eye shadows like Too Shy from ColourPop ($5), which is a neon cobalt blue, or Boo Berry from Makeup Geek ($6), which is a navy blue. For those of you who aren’t big eye shadow fans, some beautiful blue eyeliners include the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Ultramarine ($22) or Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Eye Definer in Deep Ocean ($5.99), both of which are bright royal blue pencil eyeliners.

In this look, I chose to emphasize my lips with Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Bellini ($26). Another great shade by Bite for this spring is Cayenne, which is a classic candy apple red. For those who love liquid lipstick, I would recommend Jeffree Star Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Anna Nicole ($18), which is a warm toned orange red. Some more affordable options include ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Creeper ($6), which is a cool toned blue red and NYX Butter Lipstick in Little Susie ($6), which is a warm toned watermelon pink.

Always remember that trends are just trends, and that you are free to make whatever choices you want when it comes to you. If you want to rock a black lipstick and sharp contour this spring, go for it. Be yourself and remember that whether it be pastel, goth or no makeup at all, you look beautiful no matter what.
