“Going on a trip for 4 days? I need to pack about 35 outfits, just in case…” If that quote doesn’t perfectly sum up my struggle each and every time I plan a trip, I don’t know what else does.

Although I continuously promise myself that I won’t be that person with the two 50 pound suitcases each time I go away, I have never, not even once, kept this promise.

With summer coming up, and vacations being scheduled, I have decided that this year will be the year I finally say goodbye to paying for an extra bag. I will learn to fit all of my items into one perfectly organized suitcase. So, if you are anything like me and attempt to bring your whole closet with you wherever you go, then continue reading for 4 helpful tips!

Tip #1. Invest in a good suitcase

Investing in a good suitcase is the first step in ensuring that you will have an effortless packing experience. Although your suitcase does not need to break the bank (if you are fortunate enough to have my luck, it will get ruined and stained in the transportation process), it is important to look for a suitcase that will be durable, spacious, and filled with compartments. Compartments are extremely beneficial as they help organize your clothing, shoes, accessories, and toiletries along with any other items you may need on your vacation. Consider opting for a suitcase in a fun color or design rather than the ever so classic black to avoid the struggle of finding your luggage after a long flight.

Tip #2. Look at your itinerary and plan ahead

Before even going into your closet, sit down and go over your itinerary. Where are you going? Are you traveling to a sunny, tropical destination where the majority of your time will be spent at the beach or pool? Are you going on a more adventurous trip which would require you to hike, do a lot of walking, and engage in many physical activities? As well, how many days will you be away for? Are you going for a weekend, seven days, maybe even a whole month? These questions are important to consider when planning your vacation wardrobe, will help ease the stress of potentially skimming over, and leaving behind important pieces.

Tip #3. Incorporate pieces that can be mixed and matched

This tip is especially helpful for those planning on going on long trips, but it is always a good idea to bring clothing items, accessories, and shoes that can be mixed and matched with an abundance of different pieces. Accessorizing is a great way to change an outfit completely, therefore never be scared to bring statement belts, jewelry, and even hats to transform your outfits. Aim to create a color theme throughout your outfit picks as this will allow for a more seamless outfit pairing process.

Tip#4. Take pictures of your outfits – head to toe

Preplanning and taking photographs of your outfits can be a lifesaver while on vacation. Nobody wants to be stuck in their hotel room searching for the perfect look while the sun is shining and waiting for them outside. So, spending the time to properly prep and photograph your outfits before going away will allow you to instantly cut in half the time it takes you to get ready will be. Create a folder on your phone specifically for your vacation outfits to ensure that you will be able to find all of your photographed looks effortlessly.

Although packing for a vacation may be overwhelming, the stress you had while perfecting your vacation wardrobe will instantly fade away when you arrive at your destination.

By preplanning and having your apparel essentials ready to go, you can rest assured that the only thing you will be worrying about on your vacation is the time when your next pinna colada will be served!
