It’s the perfect season right now to start putting an evening routine into place. Self-care is something talked about a ton these days all over the media, and an evening routine is an excellent way to ensure a few moments of caring for yourself every day while getting yourself relaxed and ready for bed.

Of course, self-care looks different for everyone; maybe it’s taking the time to cook a nice meal, taking a bubble bath, cozying up with a good book, watching an episode of a sitcom you’ve seen 100 times, or all of the above, like myself. No matter what activities help you to relax, here are some tips and ideas for creating your perfect nighttime routine!

1. Cook some dinner!

Whether its Kraft dinner in the microwave or a 3-course meal, take the time to prepare some food for yourself. I have started to view food differently by trying to make my dinner mindfully. (I know, I know, hippie-dippie bullsh*t, but it kind of works).

2. Get some work done.

Now I know not everyone can do work in the evenings, and some people can work all night, but my routine is to try and get a couple of hours (or even just 1 hour) of school work done after dinner. Sometimes I’ll throw on some TV in the background if it’s not something that requires my undivided attention

3. Life Administration

It may sound dumb, but “life admin” is my favourite term for all the annoying sh*t that’s involved in this whole “adulting” thing. After a bit of work I do the dishes, try and tidy my room a little, figure out what I’ve got going on the next day. Sometimes I’ll do my part of cleaning the house, do the laundry, or pick up some groceries now too!

4. PAMPER

I love a little pampering session before bed. If it’s a hair washing night, I’ll take a shower, maybe do a hair mask, exfoliate (you know, the whole shebang). If not, then I might take a body shower or a bath (but let’s be real…no one really showers every single day, right?). I also do a full skin-care routine every night, and I love it. I take off my makeup with micellar water and reusable cotton pads (Amazon or Etsy are great spots to find these), then wash my face, use some toner, add a little tea tree serum from the body shop, and moisturize! Then I love to cozy up in bed and light a candle.

Then go ahead and do your favourite relaxing activity in bed and get some sleep!

Goodnight!
