It’s the most wonderful time of the year: award season! Golden globes, Oscars, Emmys, etc. You are probably aware that the Golden Globes took place on January 5th, but if you’re anything like me, you didn’t have the energy to stay up all night and watch it live. Here is a recap of some of the highlights to keep you up-to date on the hottest features this season!

First  of all, the red carpet:

1. Joaquin Phoenix admired his fiancé, Rooney Mara, in the cutest way:

2. There was an incredibly awkward moment when Kerry Washington’s interview was interrupted because her interviewer, Ryan Seacrest, got distracted by Jennifer Aniston’s appearance. Seacrest made the interview all about Aniston, and Washington was forced to stand to the side and wait until Aniston left. When they did resume their interview, it was interrupted again when Jennifer Lopez walked by and Seacrest lost his focus again. This is what happens when you put too many celebrities in the same place peeps!

3. Bill Hader (SNL) and Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) appeared as a couple for the first time ever, and it was too cute:

4. Attendees went all out with their red carpet looks, many of which you can see on this page.

Then, for the awards and speeches:

5. Elton John absolutely flipped when Taron Egerton won Best Performance in a Musical or Comedy for his role in Rocketman. The two of them are absolute BFF goals. Their night got even more perfect when Elton John and Bernie Taupin won Best Original Song for Rocketman  as well.

6. Thanks to Tom Hanks’ reaction to Ricky Gervais’ ruthless speech about Hollywood, we now have the perfect new meme to send to friends:

7. Tom Hanks was in the spotlight again when he thanked his family in his speech and teared up, giving us one of the sweetest moments of the award ceremony.

8. Awkwafina became the first Asian American woman to win Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. She received the award for her role in The Farewell.

9. Another great moment in history took place when Hildur Guđnadóttir became the first woman to win Best Original Score for the soundtrack of Joker.

10. Russell Crowe won an award for Best Performance in a Miniseries or Television Film but chose not to attend in order to be with his family in Australia. Jennifer Aniston presented a letter from him, in which he brought attention to the devastating fires destroying the country.

11. The title of most extra speech is tied between Ricky Gervais, who roasted Hollywood, and Joaquin Phoenix, whose speech was passionate and heavily censored.

12. Brad Pitt thanked Leonardo di Caprio and made a Titanic joke after he won the award for Best Supporting Performance. He also joked about the many dating rumors surrounding him, and the camera immediately cut to Jennifer Aniston. The OTP lives!
