A Guide to Planning the Perfect Chill Halloween Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Guelph chapter.

Halloween may be a bit on the dull side this year due to COVID, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this celebration! These tips can be used to plan a chill night in with your roommates, family, or whoever you’re quarantining with during this pandemic.

1. Movie Selection

A spooky or suspenseful movie is a great go-to when planning a night in! Have a list of top three ready to go so you’re not wasting time on selecting a movie. My usual order is a good suspense movie, followed by a horror film and then something light and funny to end the night. I usually like to end my Halloween parties with a movie, as it’s a great way to unwind after getting into my pj’s.

2. A large selection of Candy

Because I’ll be celebrating Halloween with just a few of my best friends, we each plan to bring one box of candy. This allows for a greater variety and more candy. Whatever candy is left over is piled and distributed evenly among us so we each get to have a variety of candy stored in our pantry for later! I know it’s super unhealthy, but this is usually the main food item that is consumed during our Halloween parties. After all, it only happens one night of the year!

3. Party Games

You can’t have a party without a few games! This usually gets the night started off right. Some of my favourite games are Card Against Humanity, Telestrations, and Monopoly. Similar to having a line-up of movies pre-planned, having an order of games ready to go can save a lot of time!

4. Keep Dinner Simple

Since the majority of the night consists of candy, chips, and drinks, the dinner is usually kept as simple as possible. This usually means ordering a large pizza and keeping it to the side along with the rest of the junk food!

I hope everyone has a great Halloween this year and even though going out may not be an option, it’s a great opportunity to plan something small indoors!
